척사윤음 불역본 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 척사윤음의 불역본에 대해 다루었다. 척사윤음의 원문과 프랑스어 번역본 사이에 나타나는 차이점에 대한 서지적 분석을 하였다. 이어서 이 문헌이 순교자 시복 자료에 어떻게 반영되었으며 어떠한 영향을 미치었는지 파악하였다. 달레는 신유척사반교문을 번역하면서 주석을 달았다. 달레는 이러한 주석을 통하여 유럽의 독자들의 이해를 도우며, 그들에게 생소한 중국이나 조선의 상황에 대해서 제대로 전달해 주려고 하였다. 그러나 원문과 다른 번역이나 해석이 나왔으며 일부 원문은 축약하거나 생략하여 번역을 하였다. 이는 단순한 착오로 이해 부족을 이유로 삼을 수 있지만, 다른 한편으로는 조선 천주교가 박해받는 부분을 강조하고자 하는 의도도 있었을 것이다. 뮈텔은 3종의 척사윤음을 프랑스어로 번역하면서 주석을 통하여 해당 용어에 대한 부연 설명을 하였다. 뮈텔의 번역본과 원문을 대조해 보면 거의 일치한다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 달레의 불역본에 비하여 매우 정확한 것으로 평가 받을 수 있다. 이렇게 비교적 정확한 번역이 나오게 된 데에는 뮈텔이 조선에 장기간 체류하면서 조선의 역사와 문화에 대한 풍부한 지식을 가지고 있었으며, 그의 한문 실력이 탁월하였다는 점도 들 수 있다. 척사윤음은 박해자 측의 입장이 명확하게 드러난 자료이기 때문에 교회 측은 순교자 시복작업에 이 자료를 활용하였다. 천주교를 박해한 조선 정부 측에서 천주교 신앙에 대한 분명한 증오심을 갖고 있었음을 확실히 증명한 자료로 활용하려는 의도를 가지고 있었다.

영문 초록

This thesis study on French Translation of Cheoksa-Yunum(척사윤음). A bibliographical analysis was made of the differences between the original texts of Cheoksa-Yunum(척사윤음) and the French translations. We then look at how this document was reflected and influenced by the document of martyr s beatification. Dallet commented while translating Sinyou-Cheoksa-Bangyomun(신유척사반교문). Through these comments, he helped to understand the European readers and to give them a good idea of the unfamiliar situation of China and Korea. However, some interpretations and translations are different from the original text, and others texts were abbreviated or omitted. This may be due to a lack of understanding due to a simple error, but on the other hand, the intention was to emphasize the part of the Korean Catholic Church that was persecuted. Mutel translated the three types of Cheoksa-Yunum(척사윤음) in French and commented on them in annotations. It can be seen that his translations and original texts are almost identical. It can be evaluated as very accurate compared to the irregular pattern of the Dallet. The reason for this relatively accurate translation was that Mutel had a long knowledge of Korean history and culture while staying in Korea for a long time, and his talent in the Chinese language was excellent. Since this document clearly shows the position of the persecutors, the church has used this data for precedures of martyr s beatification. It was intended to use as evidence that the Korean government persecuting Catholicism had a clear hatred of the Catholic faith.
