국문 초록

본 논문은 언어가 지시어(시니피앙)인 기표와 지시대상(시니피에)인 기의로 이루어졌다는 전제 아래 작품에 내재된 기호체계와 의미를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 은희경 <아내의 상자>의 구조를 기호학적으로 분석했다. 특히 <아내의 상자>는 인물들이 점유하고 있는 공간이 대립적으로 구조화 되어있다. 아파트라는 일상적 내(內) 공간은 불임인 아내에게는 억압적으로 인식되는데, 이 공간에서 아내의 자아는 점점 작아지고 소멸하는 모습을 보인다. 하지만 그린파크라는 비일상적 외(外)공간은 아내가 일탈을 하는 공간으로 규격화되고 억압적인 삶에서의 탈출을 의미한다. 또 은유와 환유에 의해 서사가 수사적으로 구조화 되어있는데, ‘아내의 억압적 현실’이라는 작품 전체를 관통하는 거시적 서사가 유사성과 인접성을 바탕으로 에피소드와 소재들로 압축되어 있다. ‘강아지, 거세소년, 불임 초파리’ 등의 미시 서사는 억압 받는 아내의 현실과 불임의 이유들을 은유하고 있으며, ‘아내의 상자, 의자, 연필’ 등은 현실에서 상처받고 소멸해 가는 즉 유폐되는 아내를 환유하고 있다. 이런 장치들을 기호학적으로 분석함으로써 ‘아내의 불임’이라는 다소 단선적인 스토리가 어떻게 미학적으로 승화 되었는지 살펴 볼 수 있었다.

영문 초록

With an assumption that language consists of signifiers (signifiants) which are indicative words and the signified (signifiés) which are references, this study aims to figure out the sign system and meaning internalized in works. As a subject, this author will analyze the structure of Eun Hui-gyeong’s semiotically. In , the spaces that the characters occupy are structuralized contrastively. The apartment, usual inner space, is regarded to be oppressive to the infertile wife, and in this space, the wife’s ego is diminishing and becomes extinct. On the contrary, the green park, unusual outer space, is standardized as space that the wife takes for deviation, and it means escape from oppressive life. Also, through metaphor and metonymy, the narrative is structuralized rhetorically. ‘The wife’s oppressive reality’, the macroscopic narrative that penetrates into the work, is compressed with episodes and subject matters grounded on similarity and adjacency. Metaphoric narratives depict the wife’s reality and reasons for her infertility, and such things as ‘the wife s box, chair, and pencil’ form metonymic narrative that indicates the wife who gets hurt in reality and becomes extinct. By analyzing those devices semiotically, this author has been able to understand how rather a unilinear story of ‘the wife’s infertility’ is sublimated aesthetically.
