국문 초록

최근 공급체인(Supply Chain)에 대한 기업들의 투자와 관심이 집중되면서, 물류센터(창고)의 효율화, 최적화, 자동화에 높은 관심을 보이고 있다. 물류센터는 SCM(Supply Chain Management) 전체 공급망에서 브릿지(Bridge) 역할을 담당하고 있어서 생산과 수요의 연결 고리 역할을 담당하고 있다. 즉, 물류센터는 생산자와 화주로부터 다품종 제품 또는 상품을 공급받아 중간 또는 최종 고객에게 물류기능과 유통기능을 제공하는 중간기지 또는 전진기지라고 할 수 있다. 또한 물류센터 내에서는 입고에서 적치, 보관, 피킹, 패킹, 출고에 이르는 다양한 업무가 수행되고 있다. 그런데, Tompkins et al. (2003)는 “물류센터 내 피킹 업무 중 피킹을 위한 이동 작업시간이 약 50% 로 가장 많은 부문을 차지”하고 있으며, Bartholdi & Hackman (2005)는 “오더 피킹을 위한 물류센터내 이동 시간은 낭비요소(Waste)”라고 지적하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 식품물류센터 내 작업 중 “피킹 작업은 정말 비효율적인 업무인가 ? 효율적으로 할 수 있는 방법은 무엇인가 ?” 라는 관점 하에 주문 접수 후 제품 또는 상품을 피킹(Picking)하는 방법에 대한 합리적인 의사결정 요인은 무엇인지 파악하고, 해당 요인을 기준으로 피킹 방식 중 가장 많이 사용하고 있는 ‘오더 피킹(Order Picking)’과 ‘배치 피킹(Batch Picking)’에 적용하여 상호 비교 연구를 수행하고자 한다. 이를 통해 “식품물류센터 내 효율적, 합리적인 피킹 방식을 결정하는 선택 기준 또는 요인”을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 물류센터 내 합리적인 피킹 방법을 선택하여 효율적인 물류업무를 수행하는 방안을 제시하는데 연구의 의의가 있으 며, 향후 물류센터의 업무 프로세스 정립에 유용하게 이용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

With the focus of corporate investment and attention to the supply chain management, the company is paying keen attention to the efficiency, optimization and automation of the distribution center(or warehouse). The distribution center plays a bridge role in the supply chain management and plays a role of linking production and demand. In other words, the distribution center can be regarded as an intermediate base or forward base that provides the logistics function and the distribution function to the intermediate or final customer by receiving products((raw material, goods-in-process, finished goods) from the producer and the shippers. It are performed to various tasks like to receiving, put-away, storage, picking, packing, shipping in distribution center. Among them, order picking is the process of retrieving individual items from storage locations for the purpose of fulfilling an order for a customer and is the most critical one. It has long been identified as a very labor intensive operation in manual systems, and a very capital intensive operation in automated systems. It may consume as much as 60% of all labor activities in the distribution center. And for a typical distribution center, the cost of order picking is estimated to be as much as 50% of the total warehouse operating expense. Therefore, The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that make a reasonable decision on the picking method in distribution center and to identify to a mutual comparison with order picking and batch picking. In this paper, we propose a selection criterion that determines the efficient and reasonable picking method in the distribution center. The optimization of the picking method is a very effective way to reduce picking move time and improve productivity. In this paper, we conducted a preliminary research of domestic and international studies on the picking method and derived the behavioral variables of two methods of ‘order picking’ and ‘batch picking’. We compared the productivity of ‘order picking’ and ‘batch picking’ for each storage temperature(frozen, refrigerated, room temperature) based on daily order data provided by Company A in May 2016. As a result of comparing the productivity of ‘order picking’ and ‘batch picking’, we found that the productivity depend on the sum of the number of SKUs per day and the number of SKUs per delivery. We found that ‘batch picking’ is advantageous as the sum of the number of SKUs per day is smaller and the sum of the number of SKUs per delivery is larger. In conclusion, ‘batch picking’ is advantageous when the ratio of (number of SKUs per day ÷ sum of SKUs per delivery) is low under 30%, and when the ratio is high over 30%, ‘order picking’ is ‘advantageous. This paper suggests a method to perform efficient logistics service by selecting a reasonable picking method in the distribution center and it is expected to be useful for establishing the work process of distribution center in the future.
