일탈적 생활양식과 범죄행동이 범죄피해경험에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

범죄피해자 연구는 범죄피해에 국한되기 보다는 범죄가해와 피해의 중복현상을 이해하려는 시도로 확대되었다. 기존 범죄가해와 피해의 중복성에 대한 논의는 생활양식/일상활동이론과 자기통제이론을 중심으로 논의가 발전하였다. 국내에서도 중복성을 검증하려는 시도들이 많았으나 거의 대부분의 연구들이 청소년을 대상으로 검증이 이루어져 성인대상 연구가 미진하였다. 이에 이 연구에서는 성인을 대상으로 일탈적 생활양식과 범죄행동이 범죄피해경험에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 특히 이 연구에서 일탈적 생활양식을 생활양식/일상활동이론과 자기통제이론의 통합론적 논의를 발전시킬 수 있는 핵심적인 변인으로 이해하고 논의를 발전시키고자 하였다. 연구 수행을 위해 대구시 거주 만 18세 이상 성인남녀 923명 대상 설문자료를 사용하여 통계적 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 성별, 가구소유 여부, 그리고 가구소득에 따른 범죄피해 경험의 유의미한 차이가 있었으며 일탈적 생활양식과 범죄행동을 많이 할수록 범죄피해경험이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 범죄가해집단과 범죄피해/가해집단은 다른 집단에 비해 범죄행동을 더 많이 하고 있으며 범죄피해/가해집단이 다른 모든 집단들 보다 일탈적 생활양식을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 일탈적 생활양식은 범죄행동과 범죄피해경험에 동시에 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되었으나 특히 범죄피해경험에서 범죄행동이 그 영향을 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 이 연구는 기존 연구에서 미진하게 다루어진 성인대상 범죄가해와 피해의 중복성을 통계적으로 검증하려는 시도였으며 기존 논의를 지지하는 결과를 보여주었다. 연구결과에 기초하여 경찰정책과 대응방안에 대해 기술하였으며 연구한계점과 향후 연구에 대한 제안을 서술하였다.

영문 초록

The victimization study has extended its interest not only criminal victimization but also the victim-offender overlap. The literature about the victim-offender overlap is mainly discussed in the field of lifestyle/routine activity and self-control theories. In spite of a bunch of studies in Korean academic community about the overlap, almost studies have focused on the juvenile so that we cannot know too much about the victim-offender overlap of the Korean adult. As a result, the main focus of this study is to examine the effects of deviant lifestyles and criminal behaviors on victimization for the Korean adult. The deviant lifestyles in this study is a major factor to develop the integrated discussion both of lifestyle/routine activity and self-control theories. To accomplish the goals, this study used the data collected from 923 adults living in Dae-gu city. The statistical results have shown that gender, home-ownership, and house income are statistically significant factors determining the victim and non-victim experiences and deviant lifestyles and criminal behaviors are more likely to become the victim. In the comparison of the victim-offender groups, the offender only group and the both victim and offender group commit more crimes whileas the both victim-offender group has shown the most frequent participations on the deviant lifestyles. The deviant lifestyles simultaneously increase criminal behaviors and victimization. In the logistic regression model, the effect of deviant lifestyles is mediated by criminal behaviors on victimization. In sum, this study filled in the gap in the discussion of the victim-offender overlap for the adult population and provided the supportive evidence. Policy suggestions and limitations of this study are discussed.
