국문 초록

경찰공무원에 대한 외상 후 스트레스 장애 관리의 소홀이 심각한 사회문제로 부각되고 있다. 특히, 경찰의 직무특성상 경찰은 정신적 충격이 심한 사건에 노출되고 있으며, 이는 경찰공무원의 외상 후 스트레스 장애(PTSD)를 포함하여 부정적 영향을 초래한다. 다양한 연구에서 회복탄력성은 PTSD를 효과적으로 관리하는데 있어 도움을 준다고 알려져 있다. 이에 본 연구는 회복탄력성과 한국 경찰공무원의 PTSD의 관련성을 알아보고자 한다. 구체적으로, 개인적 능력, 대인관계, 상황적 요인으로 구성된 회복탄력성의 세 가지 하위요인들이 경찰공무원의 PTSD에 미치는 영향력을 연구하고자 한다. 본 연구의 분석을 위해, 오프라인 설문을 통해 확보된 279명의 경찰관들을 분석에 활용하였다. 분석결과, 대인관계를 제외하고, 회복탄력성의 두 가지 하위요인인 개인능력과 환경적 요소가 경찰공무원의 PTSD와 유의미한 관련성을 보였다. 더욱 구체적으로는, 개인의 능력은 PTSD를 낮추는 반면, 상황적요인은 경찰공무원의 PTSD 증상을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는, 경찰공무원의 PTSD를 줄이기 위한 효과적인 관리를 위해, 회복탄력성의 하위차원인 개인능력의 중요성을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Police PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is being magnified as a serious problem for police officers. Particularly, police officers are exposed to traumatic events due to their job characteristics, which results in an adverse outcome including PTSD. Resilience is known as to help deal with PTSD in healthy ways across various disciplines. Therefore, the current study seeks to explore the relationship between resilience and police PTSD. More specifically, this study examines the influence of three subscales of resilience – individual ability, personal relationship, and contextual factors – with regards to PTSD among police officers. The analyses for the present study include sample of 279 police officers collected from offline survey. The results indicated that with the exception of personal relationship, two subscales of resilience – individual ability and contextual component – are significantly associated with the level of police PTSD. More concretely, individual ability was found to reduce police PTSD, while contextual elements appeared to increase the symptom of PTSD among police officers. This finding underscores the importance of individual capacity of resilience for the effective management in relation to the reduction in police PTSD.
