국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 공간 능력의 개념을 바탕으로 기존의 미술교육방법을 고찰함으로써 시대 변화에 걸맞는 미술교사의 역할 변화에 대해 강조하는 것이다. 공간 능력은 지능 연구의 초기 단계에서부터 언어 능력과 함께 가장 핵심적인 인지 능력으로 분류되어왔다. 최근 공간 능력은 드론이나 3D 프린팅의 등장으로 융합 및 첨단과학기술분야(STEM), 소비자 중심 맞춤형 경제 분야에서 필수적인 능력으로 주목받고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 공간 능력이 무엇이고 어떠한 요소로 구성되는지 혹은 성숙과 발달에 따라 어떤 수준으로 나타나는지 등 공간 능력 자체에 주목한 연구를 찾아보기 어렵다. 이에 연구자는 학습자의 공간적 사고와 수행의 발달 양상을 설명하는 이론적 틀로서 공간 인지(spatial congnition) 이론을 검토하고 그에 따라 투시도법, 공간 디자인, 3D 조형의 교육 방법을 재고하였다. 이를 바탕으로 교사들이 공간 능력 면에서 개인차를 보이는 아동을 지원하기 위한 전략을 논의하고 향후 교육 정책, 교육과정 설계 및 구현, 교육 관계자에 대한 시사점을 이끌어 내고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to emphasize the change of the role of art teachers according to the concept of spatial ability. Spatial ability has been categorized from the earliest stages of intelligence research to the most important cognitive abilities along with verbal intelligence. In recent years, the spatial ability has attracted attention as an essential skill in the STEM and consumer-oriented customized economy due to the appearance of drones and 3D printing. Nonetheless, it is difficult to find a study that focuses on the spatial ability itself in art education field, such as what the spatial ability is, what constitutes it, and what level it appears with maturity and development. The researchers reviewed the theory of spatial cognition as a theoretical framework that explains the learner s spatial thinking and developmental level and reviewed the perspective method, space design, and 3D modeling accordingly. Based on the results, the researchers tried to discuss strategies for supporting children with individual differences in spatial perception, spatial visualization, or mental rotation, and to suggest implications for education policy, curriculum design and implementation, and education personnel in the future.
