The primary concern of this study is to provide the perspectives on museum visitors as cultural consumer who are the core of museum marketing activities. To accomplish the purpose, the various characteristics and motives of visitors are illuminated through case studies of visitor studies abroad. Thus, several strategical implications of improvement for visitors” satisfaction as well as of development for current and potential audiences were projected. First, museum professionals should put some efforts to carry out on-going researches on the effectiveness and the characteristics of museum products such as exhibitions, educational programs and other special activities as experiential goods through interdisciplinary approaches. In addition, they should offer valuable experiences and develop marketing strategies for attracting non-visitors. Secondly, museums should have capacities to analyze the relationship between visitors and motives/needs/ expectations in order to supply audiences with diverse exhibitions and programs. For the enhancement of the social function of museums, museums should provide not only exhibitions and programs but also interpretive media, and they should keep on studying on the effectiveness and quality of themselves in depth. Thirdly, museums must bear in mind the importance of meaning of ‘edutainment’ for planning their programs in term of museum experience and quality. Finally, museums should form the accessible and comfort exhibition environment and other facilities for giving social experience as part of recreation activities. Moreover, they need to satisfy visitors’ aesthetic experiences as educational values for self-improvement at the same time.
