오극성의 임란체험과 이순신의 행적

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 문월당 오극성의 임란체험과 임진일기에 기록된 이순신 사실을 고찰 하는데 있다. 먼저 오극성이 남긴 問月堂集 4권의 서지사항을 간략하게 살펴보면 3권까지는 그가 남긴 글이고 4권과 별록은 후인들이 지은 글이다. 둘째 장에서는 오극성의 생애와 임란체험을 고찰하였다. 생애는 부록에 실린 행장과 묘갈명 그리고 문집 서문과 발문을 분석하여 영남좌도에 태어나 퇴계학파의 자장에서 성장하였 음을 밝혔다. 특히 임진왜란 초기에는 김성일과 류성룡의 영향을 많이 받았고, 후기에는 상주에서 세거한 경상관찰사 정경세와 이준 등과 친밀하게 교유하고 혼반관계도 맺었다. 오극성의 임란체험은 문월당집 1권에 실린 편지 16통과 2~3권 수록된 임진일기를 분석하여 교유한 인물과 사건에서 활동을 조명하였다. 1593년 발생한 임진왜란을 극복하기 위하여 1594년 武科에 합격한 후 宣傳官에 임명되어 왕명을 받들고 三南에서 수집한 적정을 어전에서 직접 보고였다. 황간 현감에 제수되어 1597년 정유재란이 일어나자 전투에 참전하여 왜구를 수차례 무찌르는 공을 세웠다. 1598년에는 이순신의 막하에서 동생 오윤성과 함께 전투를 수행하였다. 3장 임진일기에 묘사된 이순신에서는 세 가지 특징으로 정리하였다. 첫째, 1591년 이순신의 발탁과정, 1597년 원균과 알력으로 감옥에 투옥된 뒤 백의종군 과정, 1598년 전사 하는 과정은 임진왜란의 대표적인 사료인 류성룡의 징비록과 내용이 대동소이하다. 둘째, 1594년 7월 都摠府 都事로 있을 때 이순신을 만나 왜구를 퇴치하는 병법을 논한 대화이다. 셋째, 1592년 5월 거제도 옥포대첩 때에 발생한 이순신의 부상과 치료과정을 구체적으로 묘사하였다. 끝으로 오극성이 이순신을 애도하며 지은 제문은 충성스럽고 용맹한 聖雄 이순 신의 인품을 선명하게 표현한 빼어난 문장으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to contemplate how Oh Geuk Seong with the nom de plume of Mun Weol Dang experienced Imjin War, including what Lee Sun Sin went through as described in Imjin War Diaries. In Chapter 2, Oh Geuk Seong s life and experiences of Imjin War were addressed. The analysis of records of his life and writings carved into his tombstone revealed that he was born in Yeongnam Province, and grew in Jajang under the influences of Toegye School. Especially in the earlier stage of his life, he was much affected by Kim Seong Il and Ryu Seong Ryong, while, in the later stage of his life, he exchanged close friendships with Jeong Gyeong Se and Lee Jun who had lived in Sangju for generations. Details about his experiences of Imjin War (including people with whom he exchanged friendships and events he underwent) were analyzed using Imjin War Diaries contained in Volumes 2 and 3 of Mun Weol Dang Jip, a collection of Oh Geuk Seong s writings, and 16 letters contained in Volume 1 of the same collection. Appointed so called Seon Jeon Gwan, a military officer in Chosun Dynasty, he gathered information about war status in three provinces (including Jeolla Province, Cheungchong Province and Yeongnam Province) to directly report to the king. In 1598, he engaged in battles with his brother Oh Yun Seong under Lee Sun Sin s command. In Chapter 3, what Lee Sun Sin went through as described in Imjin War Diaries were summarized into three parts: the first part addressed how Lee Sun Sin entered government services, came to serve in the war as a commoner after he had got imprisoned due to his conflict with Weon Gyun, and died in 1598, which contents were nearly the same with what was described in Jing Bi Rok, records about Imjin War written by Ryu Seong Ryong. The second is about a dialogue with Lee Sun Sin (who was then a commander of Do Chong Bu in July, 1594) about military tactics addressing how to root out Japanese pirates. Finally, it was described in detail how he was wounded during the Battle of Okpo in Geoje-do in May, 1592, and then recovered from his wounds.
