『난중일기』를 통해 본 이순신

국문 초록

임진왜란과 이순신(Yi sun-sin), 『난중일기』는 동의어처럼 각인된다. 『난중일기』에는 국가적 위기 상황과 이순신 자신의 희생적인 삶이 고스란히 녹아있다. 임진왜란이 이순신만의 전쟁이 아님에도 불구하고, 『난중일기』를 통해서 왜란의 발발과 경과, 결과와 대안을 찾으려는 자세는 이런 배경에서 연유한다. 7년간의 길고 혹독한 전쟁을 치르면서 생명의 존엄성과 삶에 대한 새로운 인식이 싹텄던 시대적 상황과 의식이 『난중일기』에 반영되어 있으며, 전쟁으로 인해 유발된 갖가지 삶의 편린들이 곳곳에 녹아있다. 탁월한 전술가이자 인격자 인 영웅의 면모 이전에, 기후와 점괘에 기분이 좌우되는 인간적인 감성과 태도 역시 꾸며지지 않은 그대로 표출되어 있다. 공직자로서 민족과 국가의 장래를 근심하는 충의정신이 뚜렷하게 보이는 한편, 평범한 인간의 보편적인 욕구와 감 정도 그대로 드러나 있는 것이다. 인간적인 모습과 감정이 일기에 숨김없이 표출되어 있다는 점에서, 일기의 작성을 통해 일종의 자기 치유를 도모한 것으로 보인다. 외적압박이 심하고 병이 심한 상황에서도 일기를 씀으로써 그러한 피로와 스트레스를 해소하려고 했다. 전쟁을 통해 받을 수 있는 온갖 상처받은 감정을 일기에 쏟아 부음으로써 자기갱신을 도모했던 것이다. 『난중일기』에 반영된 내용을 통해 인간 이순신의 진솔한 면모와 다양한 삶의 모습을 살필 수 있다는 점에서 무엇보다 주목된다.

영문 초록

The Japanese Invasion of Choson in 1592 and Yi Sun-sin s Nanjungilki are adhered to one another as synonyms. In the Nanjungilki, the national crisis and Yi Sun-sin s personal sacrifices are melded into one. Although the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 is not Yi Sun-sin s personal war, its onset, progression, effects, and alternatives form the background of the Nanjungilki. Throughout the long, harsh seven year war, a new understanding of the sanctity of life burgeoned and the significance of the situation and consciousness of the war is reflected in the Nanjungilki through the war s influence on every aspect of life. Prior to becoming the prominent strategist and decorated hero, Yi Sun-sin was a man of humane, sensible demeanor. As a government official, his deep concern for and loyalty to the future of his country and its people was evident, yet at the same time he was able to identify with the universal desires and sentiments of ordinary men. Yi Sun-sin expressed his humane sentiments for without reserve in his diary, which served as a form of self-healing for him. Under sever external pressure and intense conditions, the diary was his outlet, his place to escape the stress and fatigue of his life. He divulged his feelings throughout the war to his diary by addressing his wounds and hardships as a form of self-realization. The noteworthy content of the Nanjungilki is the observation of the honest account of the human aspect of Yi Sun-sin s life.
