박물관 분관장의 경영에 대한 사례연구

국문 초록

한국의 주요 공립박물관의 운영을 살펴보면 이미 분관운영체제가 널리 활용되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 미국과 유럽의 초대형 국립박물관들도 박물관의 전문영역을 보다 깊이 있고 폭 넓게 다루기 위해서 분관을 활용하고 있다. 그러나 박물관 분관들은 본관에 비해서 상대적으로 인적ㆍ재정적으로 열악한 환경에서 박물관을 운영해야 한다는 부담을 지고 있다. 한정된 자원으로 박물관을 경영해야 한다는 점에서 분관의 최고 경영자인 분관장의 역할이 중요하다. 이에 본 연구는 박물관 분관장의 경영에 대한 사례연구를 통해서 박물관 분관의 특징을 파악하고 이를 바탕으로 박물관 경영의 새로운 방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 대상으로는 부산지역의 박물관 분관 분관장과 과거 박물관 분관을 경영해본 자를 대상으로 인터뷰를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구의 결과 분관장들은 본관중심의 인력과 예산 배정, 박물관 공간 활용의 어려움, 박물관 활동 주제의 협소함을 경험하면서 본관과 분관의 차이를 인지했음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 박물관 분관의 상황에 맞는 인력과 예산의 배정, 신임 분관장과 기존의 분관장의 역량 강화를 위한 체계적인 연수 프로그램 제공, 박물관 분관과 지역사회와의 협력 사업 기획이 필요하다는 결론을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

Many of Major public museums in Korea are running their branches. Large museums in America and Europe also operates their branches to handle their each expertise more widely and deeply. However, branch buildings have more burden than main buildings in the sense that they are run in poorer environment. circumstances. Due to the fact that the branches have limited support, the role of CEO of the building is important for its management. Hence, this research focuses on understanding characteristics of museum branch and new ways of managing it through case study on management by directors of museum branch. This study gathered data by interviewing with directors and former managers of museum branch in Busan. The result showed that the directors have understood the difference between main and branch building through suffering from main building based allocation of workers and budget, difficulty on space usage, and narrow theme of the branch building. Considering the result, we concluded that there needs adequate allocation of resources between main and branch building, systematic training program to strengthen capabilities of new and existing directors of the branches, and cooperation project between museum branch and local community.
