세기전환기 독일사회의 모성담론과 직업관의 변화 연구

국문 초록

세기 전환기 독일에서는 여성에 대한 정신적․도덕적 규정이 빈번히 거론되었다. 당시 독일을 비롯한 유럽에서는 산업화, 도시화, 급격한 인구 이동 등 근대화로 인한 사회 변화가 급격히 일어났고 이것은 남성의 삶과 여성의 삶에 모두 변화를 가져왔다. 여성의 가정 내 역할이나 사회적 지위는 변동을 겪었고, 남성은 여성이 사무직으로 진출하기 시작하자 노 동세계에서 여성을 ‘새로운 경쟁자’라는 이미지로 받아들였다. 독일의 보수적인 시민계급은 여성이 가정과 부부관계에서 자율성과 독립을 요구하는 것을 독일 사회의 균형이 붕괴되는 것으로 간주했다. 산업화와 함께 독일 사회 시민계급의 가정 내에서 ‘일터’와 ‘가정’은 분리되었 고 여성은 자녀 양육에 전념하며 자녀와 감정적인 유대를 형성하는 모성이 강조되기 시작했다. 독일 사회에서 여성은 아이를 낳아 양육하는 문제나 가족을 돌보는 일에 책임을 져야했고, 산업화가 진행된 이후에도 여성의 역할은 여전히 사적 영역에 한정되었으며, 남성의 영역이라 할 수 있는 공적 영역이나 정치활동에서 제외되었다. 그러면서 여성은 줄곧 정치권력에 의해 차별받고, 남성의 종속자나 희생자, 또는 수동적인 존재의 이미지로 각인되어왔다. 20세기에 이르러 서유럽과 미국에서 시작된 여권신장운동의 결과, 독일사회에서 여성의 정치활동 및 사회 활동도 더욱 활발해지게 되었다. 1차대전 이후 바이마르 공화국 시기에 전개된 여성해방운동으로 독일 사회에서 여성들은 보다 다양한 정치활동에 참여할 수 있었다. 특히 1차 대전과 더불어 사상자가 늘어나는 것에 못지않게 출산율도 급격하게 하락하자, 계속된 출산율 하락은 독일사회에 공포감을 불러일으켰고, 여권(女權) 신장, 도덕적 가치기준의 혼란과 모성애의 부재(不在), 가족 개념의 쇠퇴 등이 출산율 하락의 원인으로 간주되었다.

영문 초록

In Germany at the turn of century, the mental․moral regulations on women were frequently mentioned. In Europe including Germany at that time, a social change rapidly took place owing to industrialization, urbanization and modernization such as steep population movement. This brought about a change in both male life and female life. A woman s role within home or social standing suffered a change. As a woman began to advance to office job, a man accepted a woman as the image called new rival in the labor world. The conservative bourgeoisie in Germany regarded what a woman asks for autonomy and independence in family and marital relationship as the collapse in a balance of German society. ‘Workplace’ and ‘home’ were separated within home of citizen class in German society along with industrialization. A woman began to be emphasized maternal instinct that is formed the emotional ties with children while devoting herself to child-rearing. In German society, a woman needed to be responsible for giving birth to a child and then bringing up or for taking care of family. Even after having been progressed industrialization, a woman s role was still limited to private realm and was excluded from private space or political activity, which can be said to be a man s sphere. In the meantime, a woman has been continuously discriminated by political power and has been imprinted as the image in a man s subordinate or sacrificer or passive existence. In the wake of the women s rights movement, which was begun in Western Europe and America with reaching the 20th century, a woman s political activity and social activity in German society also came to be more active. The women´s liberation movement, which was developed in the period of the Weimar Republic following the World War I, allowed women in German society to be capable of participating in more various political activities. Especially, when even birthrate dropped as rapidly as what casualties grew along with the World War I, a constant fall in birthrate caused a sensation of fear in German society. The extension of women s rights, the confusion of moral value criterion, the absence of maternal love, a decline in familial concept were regarded as a cause for a drop in birthrate.(Seowon University)
