정가(正歌)의 현대적 변용(變容) 양상

국문 초록

본 연구는 정가의 한류 문화콘텐츠 가능성과 현대적 변용양상을 중심으로 논의를 전개하였다. 정가의 원형성을 바탕 으로 현대적 변용이 이루어진 경우와 또 다른 관점에서 접근한 무대공연물 그리고 정가를 현대적 감각으로 표현하는 작품 등을 살펴보았다. 구체적인 내용을 알기 쉽게 정리하여 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한류를 이해하기 위해 한류와 문화콘텐츠의 변화양상 및 파급효과 등을 살펴보았다. 한류의 새로운 성장 동력으로 전통문화를 활용한 콘텐츠의 필요성을 제기하였다. 둘째, 정가극과 정가의 변용작업을 중심으로 현대적 변용양상을 고찰하였다. 정가극은 시조의 내용을 바탕으로 스토리텔링작업이 진행되어야 하며, 대중의 기호에 편승하지 말고, 느림의 미학과 노랫말에 포함된 여유와 멋을 적극적으로 활용하는 전략적 선택이 필요하다. 셋째, 정가의 대중화 및 한류 문화콘텐츠로 역량을 발휘하기 위해서 영문번역작업을 통한 내용의 이해와 친밀성을 확보하고, 아카펠라, 무용 등 익숙한 예술장르의 결합 등의 시도가 요구된다. 그러나 단순한 이종 간의 결합은 지양해야한다. 왜냐하면 단순한 각각의 합성이 아닌 융합을 통한 새로운 예술양식의 창출을 지향하기 때문이다. 전통의 계승위에 발전적 변용의 작업이 수반되어야한다. 정가의 현대적 변용은 시대적 과제이자 미래의 전통을 만들어가는 작업이다. 지금의 행위가 미래의 전통으로 정착되기 위해서는 수많은 시행착오와 실험 등이 수반된다. 또한 적정한 공간과 환경 속에서 최고의 소리를 대중들과 향유할 수 있는 노력이 병행될 때, 정가의 현대적 변용 작업이 결실을 맺고 한류의 마중물이 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper explores the potential of Jeongga(the traditional vocal genre of Korea) and its modern adaptation for the cultural contents of the Korean Wave. Focusing on the originality of Jeongga, I have examined those which already been adapted to the modern culture as well as the theatric works either made in different approaches or reinterpreted in a modern view point. The study results can be summarized as the following: Firstly, this paper explores the changes of the cultural contents and their riffle effect in order to understand the Korean Wave. By examining the positive and negative aspects of the Korean Wave(Hallyu), I find it necessary to develop cultural contents utilizing the traditional culture for a dynamic force for the Korean Wave. Secondly, it examines the aspects of the Jeongga operas(Jeonggageuk) and the Jeongga songs to figure out how this traditional vocal genre has been adapted to the modern times. The Jeongga operas should use a storytelling approach based on the contents of the sijo(時調) works. Also, they should make a strategic choice of utilizing the aesthetics of slowness and the composure that the lyrics deliver, without taking advantage of public preference. Thirdly, it is necessary to popularize Jeongga. It can move closer to the public when improving public knowledge and intimacy by having the sijo works translated into English as well as integrating with the public-friendly genres of arts, such as dance and a capella. For it should aim at creating of a brand-new style of art through fusion, not a mere heterogeneous integration. An expansive transformation of cultural contents should be based on the succession of the tradition. The adaptation of Jeongga to the modern times is the task of the era, and at the same time, the process of creating the future tradition. In order for the present practices to settle in the future tradition, they should go through many trials and errors as well as experiments. However, Jeongga will finally bear fruits in its modification and serve as priming water to the Korean Wave when there are efforts to share the best performance with the public in proper space and climate made available.
