씻김굿 음악의 변화와 연구 방향의 재설정

국문 초록

급격하게 굿의 현장이 변화하고 있다. 본고는 씻김굿을 중심으로 강신 현상의 요구로 인한 씻김굿 음악 변화 양상에 대해 정리하고 이에 따라 굿 음악 연구의 방향이 어떻게 재설정되어야 할지 살펴보려고 한다. 이러한 연구를 하는 이유 는 굿 음악의 본질을 찾으려는 연구와 더불어 현실을 인지하고 변화에 적응하는 연구 역시 필요하기 때문이다. 논의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 본래부터 굿은 지역과 당골, 굿의 연행 목적과 규모에 따라 굿거리 구성이 달라지며 동일한 당골이라도 굿을 할 때마다 굿거리 내 악곡의 구성이나 음악적 특징이 달라진다. 즉 굿 음악은 전통적으로 변화 지향적 성향과 유동성을 갖고 있다. 또한 굿 음악의 변화는 당골 개인의 예술성 추구나 개인적 선택과 같은 내적 요인과 굿 전승 환경의 변화라는 외적 요인의 복합적 작용에 의해 일어나는 것으로 생각된다. 한편 근래 비당골 무당의 증가와 함께 그들의 선택이 음악적 변화를 주도하는 경우가 많다. 비당골의 음악 선택은 당골의 음악을 배워 그대로 굿을 하는 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우로 양분할 수 있다. 당골의 굿과 동일한 방식을 선택하지 않는 경우에는 법사굿이나 서울굿․황해도굿의 의식 진행 방식이나 빠른 타악기의 연타 등을 사용하기도 한다. 그리고 당골과 비당골의 협업이 어떤 이의 주도로 구성되는지에 따라 실제 굿의 양상은 더 복잡하게 나타난다. 당골이 연행하던 전통적인 굿은 점차 드물어지고 당골과 비당골의 협업 형태의 굿이 많아지고 있으며, 이 경우에도 당골주도의 굿인지 비당골 주도의 굿인지에 따라 굿거리 구성과 음악적 선택이 달라진다. 특히 비당골의 능력에 따라서 굿거리가 비교적 신축성있게 운영된다고 할 수 있다. 나아가 당골 없이 비당골만이 참여하는 굿이 늘어나고 전통적인 굿음악과 거리가 먼 상태로 연행되는 사례가 점차 많아지고 있다. 이러한 변화는 연구자들의 의도와 상관없이 굿의 수요자가 원하는 방향으로 이루어지고 있다. 만일 연구자들이 이전에 보아왔던 양식만을 고집한다면 이미 굿 연구는 살아있는 음악문화의 연구가 아닌 과거의 한 시대를 풍미했던 죽은 음악만을 위한 연구가 될 수밖에 없다. 굿은 여전히 살아있는 우리의 문화이며, 현 시대를 극명하게 반영하는 거울이라고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 연구자들 역시 이러한 변화의 흐름을 읽고 어떤 가치를 살려나가야 할 것인지 새롭게 고민해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This article attempts to arrange the changes in sitgimgut music demanded by spirit phenomenon centering on sitgimgut, and to determine how to reset the direction of gut music research. The reason for conducting such study is because there is an equal need to perceive the reality and adapt to changes as well as to search for the nature of gut music. The following are the results. Initially, the organization of gutguri differs depending on the purpose and the scale of gut performance and even with the same danggol, the organization of songs and musical characteristics in gutguri changes with every gut. That is, gut music is traditionally flexible and alternating. In addition, the changes in gut music are thought to occur by both internal elements such as the artistic pursuit and the personal choice of the individual danggol and outward factors such as the changes in the gut transmission environment. The increase of non-danggol shamans and their choices are appearingly leading the musical change. The musical choice of non-danggol can be divided into two: learning the music of danggol and performing it or not. With the cases of not choosing the same type as danggol’s gut, the rituals of Bupsagut, Seoulgut, Hwanghaedogut or clanging of fast percussive instruments are used. The actual gut is performed in a more complicated manner depending on who is leading the cooperation of danggol and non-danggol between the two. The traditional gut performed by danggol is decreasing and the cooperative gut between danggol and non-danggol is increasing. Also, in this case, the organization of gut and the musical choice differs depending on whether the gut is danggol-led or non-danggol-led. Depending on danggol’s ability, gutguri is operated relatively flexibly. There are more and more cases of gut without danggol, and gut is carried out in a way that is a little distant from the traditional gut music. Scholars pay more attention to the gut of the past because of their eagerness to look for the fundamental features and principles in gut and gut music. However, failing to read the current changes and adapting to the reality can cause discrepancy in gut field. Gut cannot be isolated in a self-contained museum of the researcher. At last gut is alive and continue to be living. Therefore, more flexibility and adapting is needed.
