유럽 후기구석기시대 여인상(비너스)을 통해 본 의생활

국문 초록

구석기시대 사람들이 남긴 많은 예술품들 가운데 가장 완성도가 높고 아름다운 것으로 평가 받는 여인의 조각상(비너스)들 가운데 당시 사람들의 의생활 모습을 추정해 볼 수 있는 일단의 증거들을 고찰하였다. 먼저 머리 모습은 빌렌도르프, 브라썽푸이, 코스티엔키 그리고 그리말디의 여인상에서 모자와 같은 것을 만들어서 썼을 것이라는 추정이 가능하다. 또 돌니 베스토니체의 여인상은 머리를 타래모양으로 정리하여 단정하게 했었던 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러므로 구석기시대의 여인들은 머리에 모자를 쓰거나 단정히 손질하며 지냈을 것을 추정케 하여준다. 또 코스티엔키에서 출토된 두 여인상의 가슴부위에 나있는 띠모양의 줄들은 몸에 옷과 같은 것을 입고 지냈을 것을 볼 수 있고, 말타의 여인상은 전신에 걸친 옷의 흔적을 보여준다. 한편 레스퓌그의 여인상에서는 치마를 둘렀음을 보여주는 새김 장식이 나타난다. 마지막으로 비너스에서 보이는 구석기시대의 여인들의 체형(몸매)은 우리가 지금까지 일상적으로 생각해온 과감한 돌출과 표현이 아니라 당시 사람들의 일반적인 몸매에 약간의 과장을 했을 가능성을 보여주는 것이다. 구석기시대 사람들이 과연 어떠한 생활방식을 가지며 어떻게 살아왔는지에 대한 구체적인 양상은 아직 미지의 세계이다. 이러한 가운데 구석기시대의 여인상(비너스)에 표현된 여러 흔적들을 통해 당시 사람들의 의생활모습의 일단을 보면서 좀 더 실체적인 당시 사람들의 삶을 이해 할 수 있기를 바란다.

영문 초록

The Paleolithic people not only made tools for everyday life, such as stone artifacts and bone tools, but also left a lot of artifacts showing their aesthetic qualities and techniques. This people painted or engraved on walls and cave walls, carved animal bones or stones. It seems that is the woman statue, so called the Paleolithic Venus that is highly praised as the most complete and beautiful ones among the Paleolithic artistic presentations. In this article, I would focus on the Paleolithic people s lifestyle with these Venus, which were engraved on the various styles. In the case of Willendorf, Brassempouy, Kostienki and Grimaldi, the head was carved not only in the longitudinal direction but also in the horizontal direction. It would be assumed that they put on something on the head, such as a hat. It seems that the Venus of the Dolni Vestonice tied up hair. It shows clearly that Paleolithic women would have to wear a hat on the head or to have hair decorations. The strips on the chest of two women excavated at Kostientki would be interpreted as the clothes. The statue from the Malta site was entirely covered her body with the clothes. We tend to consider that the Paleolithic Venus would have been idealized the physical shape of the Paleolithic women, but it turns out that they represent realistic body forms of the women of this time, with a little of an exaggeration. In fact, the Venus from the Eastern Europe shows many similarities with modern African women. This is also the need to revise the view that Venus is the origin of the ritual prosperity and fertility. It’s not easy to identify precise life styles of the Paleolithic people, but through the various traces expressed in the Paleolithic Women statues (Venus) would give a glimpse into the real life of the Paleolithic people, and one step closer to the understanding of their lives.
