국문 초록

격차는 다양한 경제사회문화적 요소로 발생한다. 한국사회에서의 교육은 격차를 해소하기 위한 가장 강력한 수단으로서 기능해 왔다. 본 논문에서는 부모의 학력이 자녀의 학력과 취업 지위 특히, 정규직과 비정규직에 미치는 영향을 분석해 봄으로써 세대 간 격차이전에 교육이수 정도가 기능하는 정도를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 부모학력이 자녀학력에 일부 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 부모세대의 교육수혜 정도가 다음 세대의 노동시장 진입에 일정부분 기능하고 있음을 발견하였다. 다만, 취업 시 정규직과 비정규직 등 종사상 지위에 영향을 미치는지 여부는 확인할 수 없었다. 이는 부모세대의 학력이 자녀세대의 노동시장 진입에 영향을 주고 있어 부모세대에서 교육과 관련하여 격차가 존재한다면 자녀세대에까지 그 영향이 미쳐 격차가 지속될 수 있다는 것으로 교육환경의 대물림이 격차온존의 수단으로 기능하고 있음을 보여준다. 이를 위해 직무중심, 능력중심의 채용과 인력관리와 더불어 개인의 직무능력개발과 향상을 위한 다양한 양성 및 향상 관련 교육훈련 프로그램 개발과 운영이 필요하다. 또한, 교육시장과 노동시장에서 객관적이고, 공정한 기회가 부여될 수 있도록 제도를 재구축할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Employment disparities appear as part of diversified social, cultural, and economic inequality. In South Korea, education functions as one of the strongest means to reduce socioeconomic disparities in its society. This study examined the influence of parent education on children’s academic achievement and employment status, specifically permanent and contract employment status, in order to analyze to what degree parents’ education affects socioeconomic disparities in employment of their children besides generation gaps. As a result of the analysis, it is found that parents’ education is partly related to children’s education and employment, which implies that to some degrees educational benefits of parent generation affect their children’s labor market entry. However, it was not able to examine whether the educational benefits directly affect children’s employment status types, such as permanent or contract status. The result of this study indicates socioeconomic disparities and education gaps among parents can be related and extended to the next generation, because parents’ level of education is found to have influence on children’s labor market entry. This also implies that educational environment, passed down to the next generation, leaves socioeconomic disparities among children. In order to reduce the disparities, not only is it necessary to promote work-centered and competency-centered employment and human resource management, but also develop and run education and training programs to grow and improve individuals’ work competencies and capabilities. In addition, reforming labor market and education system is needed so as to provide equal and objective opportunities to all children despite one’s socioeconomic status and background.
