‘원삼국시대’ 한강유역의 제문제

국문 초록

이 글은 ‘원삼국시대’ 한강유역에서 보이는 토기와 철ㆍ철기의 생산에 대한 재검토이다. 토기는 경질무문토기, 타날문토기, 낙랑계토기를 검토하였다. 경질무문토기의 출현은 외부 기원설과는 달리 청동기시대 환동해선사문화권역 안에서 이루어진 상호작용 속에서 출현한 것으로 보았다. 타날문토기의 출현은 원주 반곡동유적 출토품 통하여 낙랑군 설치 이전인 전국계에 토기가 국지적으로 출현 또는 반입되었다고 보았다. 그리고 낙랑군 설치 이후 한강유역에 출현하는 낙랑계 토기의 제작 집단은 유이민일 가능성을 재확인하였다. 경질무문토기 제작 전통은 신라가 한강유역에 진출한 다음에도 북한강유역에서는 지속되었음을 확인하였다. 철기는 한강유역에 분포하는 마을에서 철을 생산하는 제련유구가 확인되지 않는 상황에서 철기의 형식학적 분류를 통하여 외부로 부터의 반입을 이야기할 수 있는지에 대하여 살펴보았다. 적어도 철 생산 유적의 확인과 철기의 금속공학적 분석이 병행되어야 유의미한 결과를 얻을 수 있다고 보았다. 철기 생산 유적은 한강 상류지역에서 주로 확인되고 완제품과 철소재를 생산하던 거점 마을은 가평 대성리유적, 춘천 우두동유적, 연천 삼곶리유적으로 보았다. 그리고 거점 마을에서 유통된 완제품과 철소재는 하위마을에서 간단한 철기를 제작하거나 수리를 한 것으로 보았다. 아울러 단야구나 소구경송풍관만 동반되는 주거는 단야 장인이 거주하는 공간으로 보았다. 지금까지 관행적으로 ‘원삼국시대’ 철 생산은 변진한(弁辰韓)지역에서 이루어진 것으로 보았지만 평택 가곡리유적이 확인되어 지금의 경기 남서부지역일 가능성을 검토하여 보았다. 한편, 이조돌대철부의 형식 분류는 인부의 가공으로 인한 변별의 어려움과 중앙의 엄격한 통제 속에서 철부가 생산되었음을 증명하지 않는 한 동아시아 지역의 철부를 일관되게 분류하기에는 한계가 있다고 보았다.

영문 초록

This study has reviewed the production of potteries and iron ware in the Han River basin during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period. When it comes to reviewing potteries, the study has covered hard-plain pottery, Tanalmun (paddled/beaten pattern) pottery and lelang style pottery. The advent of hard-plain pottery is considered to have been associated with interactions within the Korean East Sea Prehistoric Cultural District of the Bronze Age, unlike the external theories of origin. The appearance of Tanalmun(paddled/beaten pattern) potteries is considered to have been locally discovered or brought in before the installation of Lelang Commandery based on the fact that they were excavated at Bangok-dong remains in Wonju-si. The discovery of Lelang potteries in the Han River basin following the establishment of Lelang Commandery reaffirmed the possibility that they were made by wandering people. In addition, the tradition of making hard-plain potteries has confirmed that they existed in the north Han River basin even until Silla expanded its presence to the Han River basin. The investigation has been made to find out the possibility of iron ware brought in from the outside through the form-based classification under the circumstance where blacksmithing tools designed to produce iron are not found in the villages scattered around the Han River basin. To say the least, discovery of iron production remains combined with metal engineering analysis will be required to be able to obtain meaningful results. Iron ware production remains have been discovered mainly in the upper region of the Han River and key villages that produced ironware and complete products include Gapyeong Daeseongri Historic Site, Chuncheon Udu-dong Historic Site, and Yeoncheon Samgot-ri Historic Site. The complete products and iron materials distributed in those key villages indicate that simple ironware were manufactured or repaired in subsidiary villages. In addition, the dwelling houses accompanied by blacksmithing tools and small caliber tuyeres only are considered to have been occupied by blacksmiths. Byeonhan(弁韓) and Jinhan(辰韓) have been customarily seen as the iron production areas during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period but the discovery of Pyeongtaek Jinwi Remains led to a possibility that the southwestern region of Gyeonggi might be one of those iron production sites. Meanwhile, the form-based classification of the Cast Iron Ax with Double Protruding Bands may not be able to set classification of iron axes in the East Asian region in a consistent manner unless the difficulty of discrimination caused by the manual processing by workers and the production of iron axes under the rigorous central control are proven.
