영문 초록

There is a lack of research on relationship between the domestic labor and the foreign labor. It is quite possible that the aged are highly vulnerable in several policies that could be effective in promoting employing foreign labor. In this context, this study examines the impact of the employment of foreigners on the employment of the elderly in Korea based on data for 225 small administrative areas. According to the results, a statistically significant positive relationship between the employment of foreigners and the proportion of the aged appears to exist. On the other hand, it turns out that the relationship between the employment of foreigners and the employment of the elderly is statistically significant and has a negative sign. These results suggest that inappropriate policies designed to induce labor migration have a adverse influence on the aged who want to save their jobs or who want to back to work. A cautious approach should be taken when attracting foreign labor. It now requires additional studies to reveal a hidden mechanism between the migrant employment and population ageing.
