영문 초록

With increasing concerns on climate change, studies on energy saving urban structure are increasing rapidly too. This is because climate change is directly related to energy consumption. However, most studies on energy consumption in urban area have not paid due attention to impact of climate characteristics on urban energy consumption. In this context, this paper aims to study impact of both urban and climate characteristics on energy consumption in urban areas. For this purpose, this study used general linear regression, geographically weighted regression(GWR) and GIS analysis using data on 193 si-gun-gu(cities, counties, and districts). Research result with general regression analysis shows that local economic condition affect energy consumption per capita positively while characteristics of compact city have negative impact on energy consumption per capita. With regard to climate characteristics of cities, cooling degree days and heating degree days has statistically significant impact on energy use. Results from GWR analysis also shows that urban and climate characteristics are different from city to city and so does their level of impact on energy consumption. Since both urban and climate characteristics have meaningful impact on urban energy consumption, this paper argued that it is necessary to make and implement climate change policy and plan with close consideration of regional characteristics, including both urban structure as well as climate characteristics.
