국문 초록

본 연구에서는 지역별 제조업 임금과 지역의 총인구 중에서 외국인이 차지하는 비율 사이의 관계를 분석함으로써 외국인 근로자 유입이 지역의 임금에 미치는 효과를 실증적으로 분석하는 것으로 기본적인 목적으로 하였다. 이와 관련된 대부분의 기존 연구들은 외국인 근로자 유입이 지역 노동시장에 대하여 부정적인 효과를 미치지 않고 있다는 결론을 얻고 있다. 본 연구의 분석 결과에 의하면 추정 모형과 추정 변수의 종류와 상관없이 외국인비율 변수의 계수는 통계적으로 유의한 양(+)의 값을 보이고 있으며 그 크기는 대략 0.03~ 0.09 정도인 것으로 나타났다. 비록 외국인 비율이 임금에 미치는 효과의 크기 가 절대적으로 크지는 않지만 통상적인 추론과 달리, 그리고 기존 연구와 유사하게,외국인 근로자 유입이 지역의 임금에 부정적인 효과를 미치고 있다는 증거는 찾지못하였으며 오히려 지역의 제조업 임금을 높이는 가능성이 있다는 것이다. 따라서 외국인 근로자 유입 증가를 부정적으로만 판단할 것은 아니며 지역 경제및 내국인 고용여건에 대한 긍정적 효과가 극대화될 수 있도록 정책적 대응방안을 모색해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This In this study, the basic purpose was to analyze empirically the effects of foreign workers inflow on local wages by analyzing the relationship between regional manufacturing wages and the proportion of foreigners in the total population of the region. Most of the previous studies have concluded that the influx of foreign workers has not had a negative effects on the local labor market. According to the results of this study, the coefficient of the foreign workers rate variable has a statistically significant positive value, regardless of the estimation models and the estimated variables, and the size of coefficient is about 0.03 ~ 0.09. Although the magnitude of the effect of foreign workers on wages is not large, unlike conventional reasoning, and similar to previous studies, there is no evidence that the influx of foreign workers has a negative effect on wages in the region. But, there is a possibility of raising manufacturing wages. Therefore, it is not necessary to judge negatively the increase of foreign worker inflow, but it should seek policy countermeasures to maximize the positive effect on local economy and employment conditions.
