국문 초록

부산은 개항장으로서 근대문물의 유입통로였다. 근대적인 것에는 외국의 공연예술도 포함되어 있었다. 20세기 초 옥내무대형 연희장의 성립과 같은 공연문화의 외적 변화와 더불어 열강의 세력과 함께 끼어들어온 중국과 일본 등 주변국의 연극에 의한 자극은 근대 연극의 주요한 변화 요인으로 꼽힌다. 그런데 이 주변국의 연극중에는 연극이라고 부르기 힘든 잡희(雜戱), 즉 곡예와 묘기를 위주로 하는 종목들이 많이 포함되어 있었다. 이 종목들의 특징은 언어적인 전달력은 거의 없고 신체나 도구를 사용해 이목을 집중시키는 오락적 기능에 충실하다는 점에서 외국인이 연행하더라도 부담감이나 거부감이 덜했다. 본고에서는 부산에 유입된 외국 공연물들과 그 연희단의 정체를 집중적으로 고찰하고자 한다. 그간의 연구성과에서 상세히 다루지 못했던 공연물의 구체적인 내용과 양상에 대해 접근할 것이다. 특히 근대 일본의 공연예술계에서 작지 않은 역할을 차지했던 요세(寄席)과 곡마단에 주목해 보았다. 요세와 곡마단은 19세기 말과 20세기 초에 걸쳐 일본을 비롯 피식민국가였던 조선과 대만, 만주 등에서 크게 유행했던공연물들이다. 근대 외국에서 유입된 공연예술을 알려줄 만한 자료는 많은 편이 아니 지만, 당시 신문기사들과 동시기 외국 자료들 속에서 부산을 다녀간 외국 연희단의 소식을 찾아볼 수 있다. 단편적이나마 그 편린들을 엮어 근대를 맞은 조선의 공연사를 더욱 구체적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 본고에서는 근대가 막 시작되던 무렵 개항장 부산에 유입된 외국 공연예술의 유입과정과 공연의 특징 등을 살펴보고, 당시 신문기사를 적극적으로 참고해 외국 연희단의 정체와 공연내용을 구체적으로 천착하였다.

영문 초록

Institutions of modern theatrical performances were founded in beginning of the 20th century. It enables traditional performances to be performed at the indoor theater. Performing arts of Joseon was undergoing a transition with qualitative improvement at that time. Category so-called modern performing arts in this period includes circus or magic from Japan, China, and the occident that have the different way of doing performing in traditional society of Joseon. Especially, Circus troupes from Japan make traditional performing arts world of Joseon to be deprogrammed about different way of theatricals. In this paper, I intensively consider the foreign entertainment that flowed into Busan and the identity of that group. I access specific contents and aspects of outpatient entertainment which could not be explained in detail by the research results so far. In particular, I looked at the vaudeville and bands that occupied a small role in modern Japanese performing arts circles. They are performing arts that had become popular in Korea, Taiwan, Manchuria, etc, which were colonized countries including Japan, from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Historical materials on the performing arts that flowed in modern foreign countries are not many, but you can find news from the foreign entertainment group who visited Busan in the same period as the newspaper articles of the time and foreign materials at the same time. I knitted it and explained it more concretely about the history of the performance of Korea that came into modern times. In this paper, I looked at the influx process of foreign art entering Busan in Busan just after the beginning of the modern era and the characteristics of the performance, actively refer to the newspaper article at that time, and show the identity of the foreign performances and the contents of the performances I dug in detail deeply.
