민족지고고학의 적용과 한계

국문 초록

고고학은 물질문화를 통하여 과거 사람들의 문화를 복원하는 것을 목적이라 정의한다. 그런데 본인이 살지 않았던 시대(과거)를 유구와 유물을 통해서 어떻게 복원할 것인가에 들면 그렇게 간단치는 않다. 이를 해결하기 위한 방법 가운데 하나로 민족지고고학이 등장하게 된다. 오늘날 우리나라 고고학은 개발에 따른 구제발굴조사가 주류를 이루고 있어 고고학을 업으로삼는 사람들이 이를 무시하고 현장 조사하기에 급급하고 있다. 고도로 문명화되어진 사회에서 과거의 문화는 쉽고 빠르게 잊혀지므로 유적을 발굴조사하여 거기에서 확인된 몇 가지 사실(유구, 유물)을 가지고 과거를 복원하기란 그리 쉽지 않다. 다행히 아직은 1차 산업인 농업, 어업, 수렵 등에서는 그 전통성이 일부 남아 있으므로 이를 최대한 활용하는 것이 민족지고고학의 적용이라 할 수 있을 것이다. 민족지고고학의 적용은 고고 학의 연구과정 중 고고학 이론에 의한 해석에 들어갈 것이다. 적절한 민족지의 활용을 위해서는 첫째 형태의 유사성, 둘째 보편성의 문제, 셋째는 환경을 고려해야 한다. 한편 유구와 유물은 유형적이기 때문에 민족지고고학을 통하여 우리가 고고학에 적용시켜 이용할 수 있는 것들이 다수 존재하고, 실제로 이용하는 예도 많다. 그런데 기술과 정신에 있어서는 무형적인 것이기 때문에 증명하기에 어려움이 많다. 이런 제 문제를 고려하 여 필자는 종래의 발굴 자료와 필자가 조사한 민족지 자료 등을 살펴 그 적용과 한계를 논하고자 하며, 유구, 유물, 기술적인 측면으로 나누어서 살펴본다

영문 초록

Commonly, the objective of archaeology is defined as renovating past human being’s culture by material culture. However, when it comes to how to renovate it by remains of which period I’ve never lived in, it is not that easy. As one of methods to solve it, ethnoarchaeology comes out. Today, in Korean archaeology, rescue excavation? followed by development makes mainstream. Therefore people who engage themselves in archaeology neglect it and just survey the fields. In highly civilized society, culture of past gets forgotten fast and easily. Consequently, it is not that easy to renovate past just with a few excavated facts(such as remains). Fortunately, the tradition still remains in the primary industry (agriculture, fishery, hunting, etc.), making use of them can be said to application of ethnoarchaeology, and it will be included in interpretation by archaeological theory. For the appropriate application of ethnology, the first one is similarity of the form. Second, is the problem of universality. Third, we should consider the environment. Meanwhile, because remains are typical, many things that we can apply to archaeology by ethnoarcaeology exist, and in fact, there are many examples. But because of the aplastic of description and mental, it is hard to prove it. Considering the problem, I’m going to discuss about the adaption and limit with traditional excavation materials and ethnology data investigated by me, and examine it by dividing into relics, ramains, descriptive aspects.
