영문 초록

This study aims to present an overview of the import and export status of the Korean automotive industry as well as analyze the export competitiveness of the Korean automotive industry in China. Through a statistical review of automotive industry data using K-stat of Korea International Trade Association, specially, MSI (Market Share Index), TSI (Trade Specialization Index), MCA (Market Comparative Advantage) index, and EBI (Export Bais Index), Korea’s automotive export competitiveness in China was assessed for the period from 2010 to 2014. Results revealed that the MSI of the Korean automotive industry has been decreasing every year, and was 6.42% in 2014. The TSI showed its competitive advantages, but the RCA and ESI reflected very low competitiveness for Korean automotive exports in China. Thus, recommendations to enhance Korean automotive export competitiveness include setting up effective strategies, providing innovative measures to diversify export items, reinforcing core spare parts and upgrading industrial structures focusing on high-class technologies and focusing on the investment extension of the original technology.
