국문 초록

오늘날 ‘이야기 해석학’(narrative hermeneutics)은 신학과 철학 안에서 중요하게 활용되고 있는 주제 중의 하나다. 특히 현대 윤리신학에서 폴 리쾨르의 이야기 해석학은 유용한 철학적 방법론으로서 수용되고 있다. 기존의 의무론적(deontological) 도덕론, 서구의 전통형이상학에 기반한 자연법적 윤리사상, 기술주의적(technocratic), 공리주의적 이성에 기반한 형식주의적 윤리관을 극복할 수 있는 대안으로서 리쾨르의 존재론적 윤리의 길은 우리를 보다 근본적인 차원으로 이끈다. 리쾨르에게 있어 윤리학은 종국적으로 인간 자신의 이해에 대한 해석학이라 할 수 있으며, 이러한 인간 자신의 이해는 역사 안에서 발생된 이야기 전통들의 매개를 필요로 한다. 따라서 그의 윤리학은 이야기 해석학을 수반한다. 이 논문은 리쾨르의 윤리학의 기반을 이루는 ‘이야기 해석학’의 주요 주제들을 연구하고, 이것들이 그의 윤리학적 전망에 어떻게 방법론적으로 연결되어 있는지 그 구조를 살피는 것이다. 리쾨르의 이야기 해석학의 주요 주제들로서 은유, 상상력, 이야기, 모방(mimesis)에 관한 이론들을 고찰하고, 이야기의 시적(poetic) 세계의 초윤리적 전망이 윤리적 사유를 추동하는 상상력의 실험실로서 작용한다는 그의 이론을 분석하고자 한다. 그의 이야기 해석학은 성서 텍스트 전통을 갖고 있는 그리스도교 윤리학에 새로운 방법론적 전망을 준다. 그것은 성서텍스트를 도덕과 윤리의 형식주의적 참고서로 보는 한계를 넘어서게 해 준다. 대신 성서 텍스트의 시적 세계 자체가 계시하는 진리의 비폭력적 호소에 주목하게 하여, 그것이 어떠한 해석학적 구조안에서 우리의 윤리적 상상력을 자극하며 실존적 변화를 유발시키는지를 밝혀 준다.

영문 초록

It is a well-known fact that narrativity and hermeneutics have been important subjects in theological and philosophical disciplines. Christian ethics is no exception in this regard. In our time, ethics does not designate any more a normative discipline which prescribes and judges on the basis of a metaphysics of nature or reason. Rather, it is considered as the “hermeneutics of moral experience” which primarily concerns our understanding of meanings disclosed in meta-ethical mediations given in our moral traditions. The constraints of law, professional deontology, socio-economic regulations, and the like cannot exhaustively manage our moral demands. Based on this understanding, this paper examines some key features of Paul Ricoeur’s narrative hermeneutics and how his narrative hermeneutics can serve to lead our ethical reflection to a new direction. The notability of Ricoeur’s narrative hermeneutics lies in its thorough analysis of the structure of how the self can encounter reality through the act of interpretation of narrative, and in what way the interpretation affects one’s action in the world. Ricoeur shows that narrative opens up a meta-ethical perspective where we encounter the proposed truth claims of the text in its mode of disclosure. With this appeal of narrative, the interpreting “I” as a reflexive self understands the other as “another self” in historical and social bonds. This can be the genuine starting point of an integral human ethic. Ricoeur’s narrative hermeneutics enables us to take into account biblical narratives as an important source for constituting our ethical perspective. The Ricoeurian approach to the biblical text as poetic yields us the vision that the world of the biblical texts is meta-ethical or trans-ethical. The biblical narratives do not take their place in a direct way in their relation to the moral life of Christians, nor do they provide immediate solutions for concrete ethical problems. Yet, they can spark our imagination and enable us to develop fundamental inner dispositions and new models for action in a morally responsible way.
