국문 초록

이 논문은 바오로 연구를 위한 쿰란 사본의 영향, 특히 4QMMT의 영향에 대한 고찰이다. 바오로 서간에 대한 전통적인 읽기는 기원후 1세기 유다인들의 실제 문제가 율법주의, 즉 구원은 완전한 율법 준수에 의해 얻어진다는 확신이었다고 여겼다. 그러나 유다이즘에 대한 이러한 이해는 샌더스에 의해 비판되었다. 새 관점의 본질적인 주장은 제2차 성전 시대의 유다인들은 계약적 율법 사상을 가졌고, 율법에 대한 복종은 하느님의 계약 안에서의 위치를 유지하기 위해 필요했다는 것이다. 이들 유다인들은 하느님의 계약 공동체 안에 “들어가기”가 아닌 그 안에 “머물기”에 관심이 있었다. 율법에 대한 복종이 인간의 구원을 가져다준다고 생각하지 않았다. 이와 같이 유다이즘은 행위의 종교가 아니라 은총의 종교였다. 4QMMT의 명칭이 유래한 “몇몇 율법의 행위들”이란 구절은 바오로의 “율법의 행위”라는 표현을 설명할 수 있다. 4QMMT는 4Q394~399 여섯 단편으로 구성된다. 대부분의 학자들은 4QMMT가 쿰란 공동체의 지도자인 정의의 스승이 예루살렘 사제적 조직의 지도자들에게 보낸 편지라고 생각한다. 4QMMT의 문맥, 특히 C 부분은 하느님 백성의 경계 표시로서의 할라카 규정을 소개한다. 4QMMT에서 논란이 되는 율법의 행위들은 정체성 표지 혹은 경계 표시로 이해될 수 있는데, 이러한 의미에서 바오로의 율법에 관한 논의에 유용하다. 4QMMT와 바오로에게 있어 율법의 행위는 계약 공동체에 들어가는 것이 아니라 머무는 것과 관련이 있다. 이 연구를 통하여 우리는 쿰란 사본, 특히 4QMMT을 통하여 바오로 연구의 새 관점이 가지는 가치를 증명할 수 있다. 결론적으로 새 관점은, 바오로의 의화에서 문제가 되는 것은 공동체 안으로 들어가는 것이 아니라 그러한 공동체의 정체성과 관련된다는 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to explore the impact of Qumran Scrolls, especially 4QMMT, on Pauline Studies. The traditional reading of pauline letters assumed that the real problem with the Jews in the first century was in legalism, the belief that salvation was obtained by perfect Law-keeping. However E. P. Sanders criticized the understanding of Judaism through the traditional reading. The essential beliefs of the New Perspective come from that Jews of the Second Temple period believed in covenant nomisme, i.e. obedience to the Law was necessary to maintain one’s position in God’s covenant. Theses Jews were not concerned with “getting in” to God’s covenant community but rather they were concerned with “staying in”. The obedience to the Law was not thought to result in one’s salvation. Thus, Judaism was a religion of grace, not works. The phrase from which the modern title of 4QMMT is derived, “some of the works of the Law” can explain the expression “works of the Law” in Paul. 4QMMT is reconstructed from six fragments(4Q394~399). Most scholars believe that it is a kind of letter from the leader of the Qumran community, Teacher of Righteouness, to the leaders of the priestly establishment in Jerusalem. The context for 4QMMT, especially section C presents the halakhic precepts as the boundary markers of God’s people. The works of the Law discussed in 4QMMT can be understood as identity badges or boundary markers and in that sense are useful for discussion of the Law in Paul. The works of the Law expression, in both 4QMMT and Paul, are not concerned with entrance into a covenant community but rather with issues staying in. Through this study, we were able to witness the value of the Qumran scrolls, especially 4QMMT, for the New Perspective on pauline studies. In conclusion, the New Perspective is right to argue that the issue in Paul’s justification language is not how one gets in, but what identifies that community.
