국문 초록

본 논문은 20세기의 교리교육 역사 안에서 교리서의 시대로부터 교리교육의 시대(교리교육부흥운동)로의 이행에 조력한 몬테소리 종교교육에 집중한다. 하지만 이 논문은 단순히 그 교육법의 교육학적인 입장으로 접근하는 것이 아니라 바르셀로나에서 몬테소리가 실제로 체험한 종교교육 방법에서 오늘날 전례교육과의 연관성을 찾으려고 시도한다. 그 이유는 몬테소리 종교교육이 ‘전례’(liturgia)의 내용을 기반으로 전례적 표지와 상징을 통하여 어린이들에게 효과적인 전례교육을 실시했기 때문이다. 이러한 내용을 전제로 이 글에서는 몬테소리 종교교육의 배경을 역사적·이론적으로 살펴보았고 그 결과, 그녀의 종교교육이 가톨릭에 뿌리를 깊이 내리고 있었음을 확인하였다. 이는 당시 비오 10세 교황의 전례운동 방향과 뜻을 함께하면서, 어린이들에 대한 이해와 대상이 교회 안으로 들어와서 전례에 능동적으로 참여토록 하기 위함이었다. 특히, 몬테소리는 그녀의 교육방향과 더불어 교육내용을 전례로 삼았고 구체적으로, 그 방법을 아트리움(Atrium)이라는 준비된 환경과 전례 도구를 활용한 교구 그리고 인내와 겸손을 지향하는 교사로 선택하였으며 어린이들에게 종교교육을 시행하였다. 그리고 이러한 종교교육은 전례교육의 방향을 제시하는 「어린이 미사 지침」(1973)의 내용과 방법적인 면에서 상당히 일치하였음을 발견할 수 있었다. 또한, 이 글은 지침을 토대로 몬테소리의 방법이 구체적이면서 오늘날에도 유용할 가치들(예, 거행준비, 동작, 가시적 요소들, 침묵 등)을 발견한다. 끝으로, 몬테소리 종교교육이 오늘날의 사목현장에서 전례교육을 함에 있어 구체적인 도움 방향의 제시 가능성도 살펴본다.

영문 초록

This paper is focusing on Montessori’s religious education which helps moving from catechism period to catechesis period (catechesis reconstruction movement) in the 20th century catechesis history. But this is not simple educational approach in educational law, but tried to find the linkage between today’s liturgical education and Montessori’s religious education which has been actually experienced in Barcelona, Spain. The reason is Montessori’s religious education, which is based on ‘liturgia’, carried effective liturgical education to children through liturgical signs and symbols. On the assumption that, this paper looked over Montessori’s religious education’s historical and theoretical background, and as a result, confirmed that her religious education has rooted deeply in Catholicism. While having same direction and idea with Pope Pius X’s liturgical movement, the understanding and object of children entered into Church then to participate positively in liturgy. Specially, Montessori made her educational content and direction to liturgies. Concretely, Montessori, as her method, chose diocese which has Atrium (prepared environment) and applied liturgy materials, picked up teachers who are oriented with patience and modesty, then executed religious education to children. It is founded that such a religious education is quite in accord with “Directorium de missis cum pueris, 1973”, which showed the direction of liturgy education, in many ways. And also found Montessori’s method based on guidelines are specific and have many useful values (ex. Procession, posture, visible elements, silence) which can apply to current era. Finally, search for the possibilities of Montessori’s religious education could concretely help to current liturgical education in real today’s pastoral site.
