한국 노인과 청년의 부정적 정서조절에 연령과 개인 차이가 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회정서적선택이론을 바탕으로 한국 노인집단과 청년집단의 정서조절 능력을 비교해보았다. 노인집단과 청년집단에게 부정적인 내용의 영상을 보여준 후에 두 집단이 경험한 부정적인 정서를 얼마나 빠르게 회복하는지 실시간 측정함으로써 정서조절에서의 연령 차이를 알아보았다. 이와 함께 심리적 특성(특성불안, 우울, 신경증, 낙관주의)에서의 개인 차이가 정서조절에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지 함께 살펴보았다. 연구 참가자는 노인집단 31명(남 5명, 여 26명), 청년 집단 29명(남 14명, 여 15명)으로 총 60명이었다. 참가자들은 영상을 5분 간 시청한 이후 20분 동안 2분 간격으로 당시의 정서 상태를 보고하였다. 연령(노인, 청년)을 집단 간 요인으로, 보고된 정서 수준을 집단 내 요인으로 반복측정 변량분석을 실시한 결과 영상을 시청한 이후 노인 집단이 청년 집단보다 유의미하게 더 빠르게 부정적인 정서를 회복하였다. 또한 연령 집단 내에서 정서를 빠르게 조절하는 집단과 그렇지 않은 집단은 상당히 다른 정서 조절 패턴을 보였지만 심리적 특성에서의 차이가 이러한 양상을 유의미하게 설명하지 못했다. 끝으로 본 연구의 제한점에 대해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The research compares negative emotion regulation in Korean older adults and younger adults based on socioemotional selectivity theory. This study examined age difference of speed of recovering negative affect in real time after mood induction showing negative scene. In addition, how individual differences of psychological traits(trait anxiety, depression, neuroticism, optimism) affects the emotion regulation examined. A total of 60 subjects(31 older adults and 29 younger adults) participated. Participants viewed a film clip known to elicit negative emotions 5 minutes and reported changes in mood in 2-min intervals for 20 minutes. A repeated-measure analysis of variance (ANOVAs) was conducted with mood changes as a within-subjects factor and age as a between-subjects factor. The results showed that older adults were more likely to rapidly regulate their negative emotions than were younger adults. In addition, categorizing groups into rapid regulator and nonrapid regulator, even at a same age group, those people show different patterns for emotion regulation. However, Individual differences of psychological traits could not explains the effects. Finally, the limitations of this study were discussed.
