국문 초록

기업은 연구개발 활동을 통해 내부적으로 창출한 특허권 등의 무형자산을 취득할 수 있다. 그러나 내부적으로 창출한 무형자산 은 회계장부에 그 가치가 반영되지 않는 경우가 많아 회계정보와 기업가치의 관련성을 약화시킬 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 내부적으로 창출한 무형자산 중에서 특허 청구항의 취득과정에 대한 정보가 기업가치평가에 유용하게 사용될 수 있는지를 검토하였다. 또한 연구개발비 투자비중이 기업가치에 미치는 영향과 연구개발비 투자비중이 기업가치에 미치는 영향 의 크기에 내부적으로 창출한 특허 청구항 취득과정에 대한 정보가 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 실증적으로 검증하였다. 분석결과 는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 특허 청구항 성공률은 기업가치에 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 특허 청구항 취득과정에 대한 정보가 회계장부에 즉각적으로 반영되지는 않지만 미래 이익실현에 대한 기대를 증가시켜 기업가치를 증가시키는 요인으로 작용한다는 것을 의미 한다. 둘째, 연구개발비 투자비중이 높을수록 기업가치가 높아지는 것으로 나타나 기업의 생존을 위해서는 내부적으로 창출하는 무형자산이 중요함을 의미한다. 셋째, 특허 청구항 성공률이 높을수록 연구개발비 투자비중이 기업가치에 미치는 영향의 크기는 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 연구개발비 지출시점에서 연구개발비 지출의 효과가 기업가치에 반영되고, 특허 청구항 출원시 점에서 특허 청구항에 대한 사전적인 기대가 반영되므로 실제로 특허를 등록하는 시점에서는 특허 청구항에 대한 가치를 조정하 는 효과만이 있는 것으로 보인다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 볼 때 연구개발 활동의 결과로 내부적으로 창출하는 무형자산의 취득과정에 대한 정보가 재무제표의 주석 등에 포함될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Through the research and development(R&D) investment, companies can acquire intangible assets such as patents that are internally generated. However, most of the intangible assets generated internally are not reflected on the financial statements so it could weaken the relationship between the financial information and firm value. This study examined whether the information of acquisition process of patent claim, one of the internally generated intangible assets, could be useful to the valuation of the firm value. It also analyzed the influence of the R&D investment ratio on the firm value. In addition to that, this study analyzed how the information about acquisition process of patent claim would impact the actual size of the impact of the R&D investment ratio on the firm value. The results are as follows. First, the patent claim approval rate has a positive influence on the firm value. The information about acquisition process of patent claim is not immediately reflected in the accounting statements but it increases the expectations for the future profit that increases the firm value. Second, the firm value increases as the R&D ratio increases. This result shows the importance of internally generated intangible assets for companies in order to survive. Third, the impact of the R&D ratio on firm value gets weak as the patent claim approval rate increases. This indicates that the patent claim approval will have only adjusting effect on the firm value. It is concluded that the information about the acquisition process of internally generated intangible assets should be recorded in financial statements as a footnote.
