번지기 기법을 이용한 섬유 공예와 텍스타일디자인의 가능성 연구

국문 초록

우리나라의 섬유공예는 1950-60년대 전통자수의 퇴조와 염색공예의 등장으로 섬유예술의 형태가 주를 이루었다. 이후 1970년대에 타피스트리가 등장하였으며, 80년대 개방적인 조형의식으로 전성기를 이루었다. 1990년대 이후부터는 다양한 염료의 개발과 기술의 발달로 디지털 프린트(DTP)가 보급화 됨으로 섬유예술과 섬유산업의 형태로 나누어지기 시작하였다. 현재는 섬유예술의 입지는 현저히 좁아지고 섬유산업이 주를 이루고 있다. 예부터 우리조상이 추구하던 섬유공예는 '쓰임' 을 중요시 여기며, 예술성도 함께 발전시켜 나가는 것이었다. 그러나 현세대는 현실적인 사고와 상업성에 치우쳐, 이익추구에 매진하고 있기에 섬유예술의 입지는 거의 사라질 안타까운 위기상황에 처하였다. 이러한 변화에 섬유공예의 합리적 발전을 위한 대안은 무엇일까? 현재 상업화에 치우친 분위기에서 보다 성숙하고 수준 높은 발전의 움직임들이 시작되고 있다. 단순히 경제적 이익을 추구하는 상품이 아닌 현대인의 마음을 읽어주고 다독여 줄 수 있는 공예상품 그리고 보다 높아진 소비자들의 눈높이를 충족해 줄 수 있는 섬유공예가 절실한 현실이다. 세월이 변해도 꼭 필요한 것은 인간미를 담은 문화라 생각된다. 기계적인 차가움 보다는 수공예적인 따뜻함, 철학, 예술성과 개성을 담은 상품 개발이 필요하다 생각한다. 그리고 이러한 작업의 기본은 섬유 고유의 물성을 잘 나타낼 수 있는 발묵법을 응용한 번지기 기법으로 상품과의 결합을 가늠해 보고자 한다. 단순히 번지는 기법이 아니라, 발묵법에서 보여주는 철학적 의미를 담고자 한다. 이러한 시도들로 점점 사라져가는 섬유예술의 명맥유지와 사회적 공헌, 즉 실용적인 면에도 적용된다면 이상적일 것이라 느끼는 바이다. 본인은 단순히 번지는 패턴으로의 접근 보다는 심미성을 바탕으로 한 발묵법의 회화성과 느림, 기다림의 철학을 담아 표현해 보고자 한다. 이러한 연구결과의 활용으로 지쳐가는 현대인의 피로와 섬유예술 분야에 조금이나마 보탬이 되었으면 한다.

영문 초록

The Korean traditional embroidery regressed and the western embroidery inflowed in the 1950s, followed by the dyeing craft in the 1960s. The new technique, batik and tapestry, were also shown and these crafts spread gradually. Under the influence of these new techniques, the fiber craft acquired its formal title in the 1980s and vigorous creative activities were arised to accomplish artistic achievements. In the 1990s, more new techniques and materials appeared and digital prints(DTP) has diffused, and so the fiber arts and the fiber industry has been distinguished. Now, the fiber arts are losing grounds and the fiber industry are mainly concerned. Our classical fiber arts had kept its balance between ordinary use and artistic aspect, but now, we are so interested in the business value and practicality that the fiber has been losing too much grounds. What should be the solution for reasonable development against this alteration? Now, there are signs of more mature and sophisticated development overcoming the excessive commercialization of fiber arts. We need the fiber product healing the hearts of modern people, not only pursuing economic interests but also satisfying the enhanced needs of consumers. The culture should keep humanism in any time. Therefore, we need to develop products which have warmness of handcraft, philosophy, personality, and artistic value. The technique of splashed ink could contribute to such products due to its trait which expresses unique properties of fibers. In this study of splash ink, the focus would be in the philosophical meaning, not only in the simple technique. This attempt could be helpful in retaining life of the fiber arts and in the contribution to practical use. We will see the aesthetic pictorial expression of the splash ink and its philosophy of slowness and wait, as well as simple technical splashing patterns. This study is expected to contribute to development of fiber arts and healing tired modern people.
