영문 초록

This study is an exploratory research about preparations for providing various patient meals for the foreign visitors based on the different cultures and religions. The purposes of this study are to oversee the actual conditions about the hospital food services for foreign patients and make some desirable marketing strategies on the medical tourism field by analyzing survey data and interviews from 11 general hospitals with over 500 beds in Seoul planing to attract foreign patients and taking professional advices from professors related to Medical Tourism. This study finds that the foreign patients are coming from North America, South Asia, Middle east area, Japan, China and Russia in an orderly manner. In terms of special menu, meal types tend to make too much of American style only. Most hospitals provide muslims and vegetarians with special meals according to their specific religions and personal background. But on the other hand, related specialists expect that patients composing with Japan, China, Russia would have a majority in medical tourism and advise various special menus such as Muslim meal & Hindu Meal should be developed urgently. Regarding the results of this study, most hospitals in Seoul have been showing unpreparedness of readiness for the hospital food service for foreign patients. Therefore, first, we need to have the right understandings of the medical tourism. Second, we try to recognize the culture & religion - differences. Third, we also try to make diverse menu types considered their specific conditions.
