국문 초록

포스트모더니즘의 시대를 거치며 20세기 이후의 현대미술은 매체의 융합과 장르간의 경계가 사라지며 재료와 표현의 범위가 확대되어지고 있다. 포스트 미디엄 컨디션의 개념과 함께 모더니즘 미술에서 엄격히 규정지었던 각 장르의 매체특정성을 부정하고 재료에 대한 선택가능성을 열어둔 것이다. 이로 인해 현 시대의 예술은 매체간의 활발한 교섭과 적극적 표현이 이루어지는 자유로운 표현의 장이 된 것이다. 이러한 변화의 흐름은 미학의 개념 또한 변화시키고 확장되게 하고 있다. 전통적인 미학 기준을 충족시키지 않는 다양한 표현방식의 출현과 이질적 재료의 시도로 인해 현대미술의 표현 범주는 거의 모든 것을 예술이라 칭할 수 있을 만큼 광범위해졌다. 본 연구에서는 도자기의 파편이 현대미술의 표현 소재로 활용되어 작가와 관객 그리고 사회와 대중을 연결지어주는 매개체의 역할을 수행하는 현상에 대하여 알아본다. 이를 위해 먼저 파편이라는 형태가 갖는 조형적인 특징과 파편이 이끌어 낼 수 있는 인간의 감성적 또는 본능적 심리의 변화에 대하여 알아보았다. 파편 또는 파편의 조합으로 완성된 형상은 공격적 본능과 폭력적 이미지에 길들여진 대중들의 갈증을 해소하기도 하고, 반대로 현대사회의 고립된 자아를 위로하는 치유의 역할 또한 해낸다. 이러한 관객의 내면적 사유를 이끌어내는 표현의 소재로써 광범위하게 사용되어지는 도자파편을 이용한 현대미술의 다양한 전개를 살펴봄으로써, 도자기가 갖는 새로운 조형언어로써의 가능성을 살펴보았다. 또한 위의 논지를 뒷받침하기 위해 도자파편을 이용한 현대미술의 다양한 표현들을 조형적 변화, 개념적 해석, 역사의 반영이라는 관점으로 분류하였고, 5명의 작가를 선정하여 각 분류의 특징을 연구하였다.

영문 초록

Going through the period of post-modernism, fusion of medium and boundary between genres disappear, and the range of materials and expressions is expanded on modern arts after 20th century. With the concept of post-medium condition, the medium specificity of each genre that was strictly regulated on modern art was denied and choice probability for materials was open. Art of the present age become a place for free expression including animated negotiations between medium and active expressions. These transitions change and expand the concept of aesthetics. Due to the appearance of various expressions and different materials that can not satisfy traditional aesthetic standard, the expressive range of contemporary art is wide spread as almost everything considered as an art. In this study, we intend to look into a phenomenon that ceramic shards can be used as materials of contemporary art and connect artist, audiences, society, and the public. First we recognize the figurative feature of the form of fragments and emotional or instinctive psychological change that fragments can lead to. The form completed with fragments or the mix of fragments quenches the public's thirst that is habituated to aggressive instinct and abusive images and cures loneliness in modern society. By recognizing various spread out of contemporary art using ceramic shards which can be used as an expressive material that leads internal reason, I examine the possibility as a new formative language that ceramics have. To support these points, I classify various expressions of contemporary arts using ceramic shards from the aspect of the modeling changes, conceptualization, and the historical reflection, and I study characteristics of each classification by choosing 5 artists.
