국문 초록

저장시설이 주거에 비해 압도적인 비율로 발견되는 松菊里型취락의 등장에 대한 고고학적 해석은 貯藏의 屋外化이다. 복합적인 사회조직의 등장 및 도작(농경)집약화라는 청동기시대 전-중전이기 사회경제적 변화와 결부시켜, 그러한 현상이 폭발적인 剩餘의 增大와 그 管理의 公共化를 반영한 것으로 이해하기도 한다. 해외의 사례연구에 비춰 볼 때, 그러한 결론에는 개연적인 측면이 없지 않다. 그러나 저장과 잉여의 관계를 설정하는 과정 곳곳에 매우 부적절한 관찰과 분석, 미숙한 이론적 전제가 자리하고 있어 온전한 이해를 도모하기에는 부족하다. 본고는 그러한 문제 해결의 실마리를 전ㆍ중기 가내 저장양상의 변화를 추적하는 작업에서 찾고자 한다. 잉여란 일반생산자 가구의 필수적 요구치 이상을 의미한다는 보편적인 정의에 비춰보자면, 잉여생산의 간접적 지표인 저장양상을 家口차원에서 살펴보는 작업은 사회 전체의 양상을 이해하는 필수적인 과정일 수밖에 없다. 가구 차원의 저장양상 변화를 파악하기 위해 본고는 저장용으로 추정되는 토기의 용량을 복원ㆍ비교하는 작업을 시도한다. 그러한 분석의 결과, 오히려 가내 저장량은 전기에서 중기로 넘어오면서 증대되는 것으로 판단된다. 이는 '貯藏屋外化'의 명제에 심대한 실증적 오류가 있음을 시사하는 것이다. 한편, 생산단계에서부터의 집단적 노동력 동원의 경험이 그 이념적 기반을 이루는 '剩餘公共化'의 명제 또한 설명논리에 대한 비판적 검토나 저장 수혈의 분포양상에 대한 통시적 연구 성과에 비춰볼 때, 논리ㆍ실증적 한계를 내포하고 있다. 본고는 가내저장양상에 대한 분석결과를 선진학계의 이론적 성취에 대한 비판적 이해와 연결하면서 그러한 논리ㆍ실증적 한계를 극복하고 청동기시대 전-중전이기의 역동성을 담보하는 대안적 설명을 시도한다. 그러한 설명에는 전기 특정 시점부터의 국소집단 간 경쟁이나 그 내부 자기확대적 행위의 증대, 상대잉여의 소요와 저장시설의 군집ㆍ독립화, 집단 간 경쟁의 가속화에 뒤이은 수장(층)의 등장, 잉여의 전용과 독점적 관리의 결과로서 저장중심취락의 등장을 연결하는 순차적인 논리가 포함된다.

영문 초록

An archaeological interpretation about the emergence of Songgukri-type habitation sites with high ratio of outside storage facilities to residential structures has been summarized as the prevalence of outside storage facilities. Furthermore, the phenomena have been understood as a reflection of drastically increased surplus and communalized surplus(management) in relation to socioeconomic changes such as the emergence of complex social organization and rice-agricultural intensification. Referring to cross-cultural studies, we can find some plausibility in the idea. However, it should be realized that inappropriate observations and analyses in establishing the relationship between storage and surplus and crude theoretical consideration found in most studies are likely to interrupt proper understanding. This paper attempts to solve the problem through tracing changes in household-level storage patterns from Early to Middle Bronze Ages. Defining surplus as extra-products beyond producer households'basic necessity, scrutinizing storage patterns as pseudo-index of surplus production at the household-level should be preceded for proper understanding on regional-level patterns. For the systematic reconstruction of storage patterns at the household-level, this paper tries to estimate and compare the volume of storage vessels. The results of analyses reveal that domestic storage capacity increased in the transition of Early to Middle Bronze Ages. It implies that hypothesizing 'prevalence of outside storage facilities'could be erroneous. In addition, current hypothesis for communalization of surplus(management) premising the experience of collective labor-pooling at the stage of production also shows logical and positive limitations. For the purpose of overcoming the logical and positive limitations shown in current explanation, this paper suggests an alternative model relating its own analytical results and critical reviews of advanced theoretical approaches to the relationship between changes in storage patterns and surplus's roles in sociopolitical development. This new model includes articulate but interrelated ideas about competition among local groups, increasing self-aggrandizing activities and needs for(relative) surplus within the individual groups, emergence of independent and clustered storage facilities, emergence of the elite as a result of competition among local leaders, surplus manipulation by newly-arising elite, and eventually emergence of settlements with high ratio of outside storage facilities to dwellings.
