지역과 세계, 상대성 보편성의 경계에 선 철학

국문 초록

철학의 세계성(globality)은 실제 철학의 지역성(locality)이 좌우한다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 이는 지역성, 상대성이 높을 때 세계성, 즉 보편성에 다가갈 확률이 높다는 것을 증험(證驗)한다. 그런데 어찌된 일인지 사람들은 철학을 논할 때면 예외없이 비지역적이고 초시간적인 보편성만을 사유의 모범으로 고집한다. 보편성, 세계성은 물론 시공간을 초월하며, 누구에게나 적용되는 것이라 할 수 있다. 그러나 과연 그런 인문 지식의 보편성이 존재할까? 서구인들을 위한 서구적 보편성이 동양이나 한국에서도, 아프리카의 에티오피아에서도 타당한 담론일까? 본고에서 우리는 이러한 문제의식 하에 지역학으로서 철학(philosophy as a localology, the study of localness)의 밑그림을 제시해보았다. 지역학으로서 철학은 기본적으로 철학에 대한 지리ㆍ문화적 해석에 기초한 것이며, 실제 우리가 구분하곤 하는 독일고전철학, 프랑스현상학, 영미분석철학, 한국불교철학 등도 이에 기초한 것이다. 이렇듯, 서로 다른 지역에는 서로 다른 철학이 존재한다. 한국철학도 결국 자신의 지역성, 상대성을 모태로 연구될 때 이제까지의 외부에 의해 강요된 타자의 시선으로부터 독립되어 자발적ㆍ창조적으로 (재)구성될 수 있다. '지역학으로서 철학'을 통해 본고에서 우리가 강조해보려고 했던 것은 다음 명제다: 철학이란 지역성에 도달하는 것이 목표가 아니라 지역성에서 출발한다. 즉 땅의 정령이 숨 쉬는 지역이 철학의 출발지요, 모태라는 것과 지역성의 표현이 철학의 최종 목적지라는 것은 구분되어야 한다. 지역의 독립은 결코 세계로부터의 고립을 의미하지 않는다.

영문 초록

It is not too much to say that the philosophical globality is controlled by the philosophical locality. This has proved that the provability to approach to the globality, in other words universality is getting higher when the locality, the relativity is higher. But for what reason, people stick to the non-local and trans-temporal universality as the norm of rational faculty of the mind without exception when discussing philosophy. Of course it can be said that the universality, in other word globality is transcend time-space, and applied to everyone. By the way, really can such a universality of the knowledge of humanities be existing? Can the western universality for Westerners be a rational discourse in the East, Korea and Ethiopia in Africa? In this study, under this critical mind, the rough sketch of the philosophy as the study of localness has been proposed. The philosophy as the study of localness is fundamentally based on the geographical and cultural interpretation of philosophy, and German classic philosophy, French phenomenology, Anglo-american analytic philosophy, and Korean Buddhism, practically classified by us are also based on this concept. So, every different region has its own philosophy. Eventually Korean philosophy, when its location, locality and relativity are the matrix of studies, can be independent from the forced external eye-line and spontaneously and creatively restructured. Through Philosophy as the study of Localness the propositions intended to emphasize is: "A locality is not the destination of/to philosophy, but the starting point." In other word, the fact that the region, where the spirit of the soil is breathing, is the starting point as well as the matrix of philosophy and the fact the expression of localness is the final destination of philosophy shall be segregated.
