침입절도 반복피해에 관한 연구

국문 초록

범죄피해경험은 후속피해에 대한 가장 확실한 예측요소이므로 침입절도에 효과적으로 대응하기 위해서는 침입절도 반복피해에 대한 올바른 이해가 반드시 필요하다. 그러나 아직 우리사회에서는 침입절도와 그 반복피해에 대한 관심과 이해가 매우 부족한 실정이다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 17명의 침입절도범과의 심층면담을 통해 반복피해의 기본전제라 할 수 있는 범죄자의 합리성이 침입절도범의 경우에도 성립하는가에 대하여 살펴보았다. 또 탐색적인 차원에서 침입절도 반복피해의 발생유형과 그 발생시기에 대하여 조사하였다. 분석결과, 우리나라에서도 침입절도범들은 합리적으로 범행대상을 선택하며, 범행대상선택시 이익이나 노력에 관련된 요인보다는 위험과 관련된 요인을 중시하는 것으로 나타났다. 또 반복피해의 발생유형에 관해서는 위험이질적 반복피해와 사건의존적 반복피해가 모두 발생하고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌고, 반복피해의 시기는 국외의 선행연구와는 달리 상당한 시간이 경과된 후에도 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 침입절도에 보다 효과적으로 대응할 수 있는 방안을 점증적 대응전략을 중심으로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Since victimization is the best single predictor of later victimization, better understanding of repeat burglary victimization is necessary in order to effectively tackle burglary problem. In the Korean context, however, there has not been enough research on burglary and its repeat victimization. Thus, through in-depth interviews with 17 known burglars, the present study attempted to fill the gap and tried to find whether burglars make rational choice; what types of repeat burglary victimization occur; and when repeat burglary victimization occurs. This study found that residential burglars planned and made rational decisions when they searched for a target. However, the decision made by the burglars on a particular target was based primarily on an assessment of the risks associated with any potential target. In relation to the types of repeat victimization, it was found that both heterogeneity and event dependency factors contributed to repeat burglary victimization. Unlike the findings from the most preceeding research that repeat offenses occur quickly, this study found that the time period between an initial and subsequent offense was not short. Based on the findings of the study, several recommendations focusing on graduated response are proposed
