안조원(安肇源)의 『만언사(萬言詞)』에 나타난 교육적 의미

국문 초록

본고는 추자도 유배인 안조원이 남긴 「만언사」에 나타난 교육적 의미를 고찰한 것이다. 조선의 교육은 체제유지 및 강화를 위해 유학이념에 의한 정치적ㆍ계층적 차이가 확연하였다. 그리고 시기에 따라 전개되는 이념이 조금씩 달라졌으나 교육에 있어 유학의 중심 윤리인 충과 성, 경 등은 공통적으로 강조되었다. 이것은 이 글이 지어진 18세기에도 이어졌고 조선 전체 교육의 대의명분으로 작용하게 된다. 그래서인지 「만언사」의 작가 안조원은 중인계층이었음에도 글 속에 연군으로서의 충과 회개로서 성, 경을 나타내고 있다. 그는 글을 통해 조선의 교육이념인 충을 평생 실천하려 했으나 자신의 실수로 이를 다하지 못함을 통탄하였고 추자도 사람들의 박대와 불합리한 모습에는 오륜을 상기하며 사회질서의 모순을 비판하기도 했다. 또한 추자도 유배생활의 고충을 토로하며 지난날의 실수를 반성, 연군에 대한 충절을 표현하기도 하였다. 이것은 곧 성과 경의 끊임없는 순환에 의한 것이라 볼 수 있다. 이처럼 유배가사 「만언사」를 통해 조선의 교육논리인 유학과 이에 따른 교육적 근거의 개진을 살펴보았는데 이것은 유배가사의 교육학적 활용에 대한 근거를 마련한 시도였다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The paper carefully considers the educational meaning shown at 「Maneonsa」 of "An Jo-Won" who was exiled to Chujado. The difference of education in Confucianism was clear in terms of the political and hierarchical perspectives to maintain and reinforce the system in the Joseon Dynasty. Although the ideology kept changing a bit over time, loyalty, truthfulness, and respect as part of the core ethics in Confucianism were always emphasized in education. This was still effective in 18th century when 「Maneonsa」 was written, and it justifies the ideology of education in the Joseon Dynasty. So 「Maneonsa」 shows loyalty as missing a king and truthfulness and respect as repentance even though the author, An Jo-Won, was in the middle class. He lamented deeply that he could not practice loyalty by a mistake during his entire life, and criticized a contradiction of social order by reminding the five duties of people about the poor treatment and illogicality of people in Chujodo. He also revealed difficulties of life in his exile to Chujado, and reflected his mistakes and expressed loyalty to the king, which can be considered a result of endless circulation of truthfulness and respect. This paper reviews Confucianism as the educational ideology of the Joseon Dynasty and its educational grounds through the Exile Gasa 「Maneonsa」. This is the contribution of the paper that it tries to form the basis in the educational use of the Exile Gasa.
