고전문학과 전통회화에서의 도교담론과 도교도상의 수용양상

국문 초록

도교와 관련된 담론과 도상이 고전문학과 전통회화에 수용된 양상을 탐구하는 작업은 동양인의 정신구조와 우리 문학이나 예술의 독특한 내면적인 성격을 다른 각도에서 이해하는 방법이다. 이러한 방법은 문학적인 관련 구도에서 벗어나 문학을 좀더 문화론적인 시각으로 옮김으로써 우리 고전문학의 성격을 보다 광활한 퍼스펙티브에서 조망할 수 있게 한다. 이 연구는 도교담론, 도교도상, 고전문학, 전통회화라는 네 가지 영역 사이의 상호 텍스트 양상을 거시적인 차원에서 조명하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 첫째, 도교담론과 도교도상 사이에는 극도의 정신적이고 내면적인 상호소통이 존재한다. 도교의 대위적 성격의 음양론은 그림에서는 대위적 성격의 구도와 선 양식의 음양법으로 채용되고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 도교담론에서의 은일자적이나 무위자연의 취향은 고전문학 속의 도인이나 은일자의 자세에 많은 영향을 끼쳤을 것이라고 판단된다. 자연시가 속에서 발견되는 ‘물아일체’나 ‘주객합일’의 인식론적 상태도 도교담론의 허정적 세계관의 반영으로 볼 수 있다. 천상적인 분위기와 초월적인 정조를 풍기는 도교도상은 고전문학 전반에 걸쳐 나타나는 환상적인 묘사 방식과 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있다. 셋째, 도교담론 속의 도인이나 은사 같은 인물 유형이나 탈속적인 자연 환경은 산수화의 전형적인 제재가 된다. 산수화의 ‘여백’은 ‘무’로서의 담론적인 ‘도’와 관련되며, 수묵 또한 은일허정적이고 현학적인 세계관과 연관된다. 산수화는 도가적 인식체계 속에서 형성된 소우주이자 삶의 심정적 귀의처로 기능했으리라고 판단된다. 도교의 음양적 도상 원리는 전통회화의 구성과 기법의 바탕을 이루고 있다. 넷째, 고전문학과 전통회화 사이에는 상상력 차원의 상호교류가 일어난다. 회화적 상상력이 발현되어 고전문학에는 회화에서의 제재와 모티프가 수용되고 시각적인 비유와 언술들이 활성화되며, 문학적 상상력이 발현됨으로써 전통회화에는 설화도나 고사인물도 등이 그려지고 동선이나 역동적인 구도로의 변환 등이 일어난다. 이러한 연구는 앞으로 보다 광대한 영역의 미학적 연구, 즉 문학과 회화 내지는 담론과 도상 사이의 관계에 대한 일반 미학으로 연결될 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

To research the connecting aspects of Korean classical literature and Korean paintings with Daoistic discourse and Daoistic icons is the way to understand newly Korean classical literature under oriental cultural context, espicially under the relationships with Daoistic discourse as an oriental thinking system and oriental painting art. There is a spiritual and inner communication between Daoistic discourse and Daoistic icons. The principle of yin[陰]and yang[陽]with symmetrical function derived from Daoistic paradigm appears symmetrical painting character on composition and drawing line system arranging according to positive or negative character of things. The spiritual inclination of seclution from the world and quietistic tendency in Daoistic discourse affects living attitude of Taoist or hermit in almost kinds of Korean classical literature. The cognitive selflessness in nature poem seems a reflection of Daoistic movement within stillness. Heavenly atmosphere and supernatural mood on Daoistic icons affects fantastic description of Korean classical literature. The characteristic features of Taoist or hermit and transcendent circumstances showing on Daoistic discourse become a material or model of landscape painting. Blank space on landscape painting corresponds to wu(non-being)[無] as a application of Tao[道] which is a moral doctrine of Taoist or hermit. According to such a viewpoint, landscape painting is a small universe and a spiritual devotion of many contemporary peoples that hope an ideal Daoistic world. Iconographic principles of yin and yang become a basis of compositional framework or technic system of landscape painting and many Korean traditional paintings. There is an imaginary communication between Korean classical literature and traditional painting. The pictorial imagination activates visual motives and visual descriptions of Korean classical literature, literary imagination activates paintings about historical fact/person and dynamic drawing and composition on Korean traditional paintings. This trial study shall be extended to aesthetic theory dealing with the relationships between literature and painting, between discourse and icons in general.
