레저산업으로의 21 세기 경마 산업

국문 초록

인간은 본능적으로 달리고 싶어 한다. 아이들 놀이의 대부분은 달리는 것이다. 바퀴라는 것을 발명하기 전부터 인류는 소를 타거나 말과 같이 인간보다 빠른 동물을 타고 달리기 원하였다. 동물 중 가장 빨리 달리는 것은 치타라고 하지만 길들여지는 짐승 중에서는 말이 제일 빠르고 나머지는 야생동물이라고 할 수 있다. 말의 최고 기록은 시간당 75㎞이다. 오늘날의 경마는 영국에서 개량한 말을 사용하고 있는데 이 말은 단거리를 잘 달릴 수 있도록 개량하여 시행하고 있다. 이 말을 우리는 더러브랫(Thoroughbred)이라고 한다. 이 품종은 세계 경마와 생산에 관한 국제협약에 의해 혈통관리가 이루어지고 있고 공식혈통서가 있어야만 경주에 참가 할 수 있다. 이런 이유로 경마를 혈통스포츠라 말 하며 이 경마를 귀족들이 주로 하였으므로 King of Sports라고하며 스포츠 중 가장 재미있다고 하여 Sports of King이라 한다. 지금의 경마는 경마고객간의 베팅을 모아서 합산하는 기계를 발명한 프랑스가 다중스포츠로 발전시키는데 기여 하였다.

영문 초록

Through this study, it is illustrated that horseracing industry as cultural industry has high level of possibilities for growth and progress as leisure industry; that there is need for research in many aspects of establishment of leisure culture centered around families, and development of cultural products associated with Jeju; and that there is requirement for development of diverse range of horseracing product through activation of exchange with overseas horseracing, expansion of seats dedicated for foreigners staying in Korea, management and nurturing of excellent racing horses, cultivation of outstanding trainers and activation of long-term overseas education, as well as through fortification of internal elements of Korean Horse Affairs Association including awarding of outstanding jockeys and activation of overseas exchange. With the ensuring future researches in areas such as Korean Horse Affairs Association, Korea Horse Owners Association, jockeys and trainers for growth and progress of horseracing industry towards leisure industry, it is the limitation of this study that substantive and quantitative study has not been carried out.
