국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 거창고등학교 정신을 정초한 전영창의 생애와 교육사상의 교육적 의의를 밝히는 데 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구는 전영창의 생애와 교육활동을 구체적으로 살펴보고, 그의 교육적 이상과 교육방법의 특징을 고찰하였다. 전영창은 참다운 기독교인, 인간다운 인간, 국가와 민족을 사랑하는 인간을 양성하기 위해 전인교육, 자유ㆍ자율교육, 공동체 교육, 노작ㆍ체험교육, 개인차를 고려한 수준별 수업, 학생 사랑 등을 교육의 방법적 원리로 삼아 실천하였다. 전영창은 인간교육과 전인교육의 중요성을 인식하고 직접 실천하였으며, 학생 중심의 다양하고 창의적인 교육과정을 운영하였다. 또한 그는 수준별 수업을 통해 학생들의 개인차를 고려하였으며, 자유ㆍ자율의 원리에 입각하여 학교를 운영하고 학생을 가르쳤다. 무엇보다도 그는 행동으로, 실천으로 학생들을 가르치고 사랑했다. 이런 점에서 그는 이 시대의 참다운 교육자상을 제시하고 있다고 하겠다. 결론적으로 국가와 민족을 열정적으로 사랑했고 학교와 학생을 위해 모든 것을 바쳐 헌신했던 전영창의 생애와 교육사상은 우리에게 교육의 본질과 교육자의 진정한 사명이 무엇인지를 제시하고 있다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the life and educational thought of Jeon, Young Chang who established the Spirit of Geohang High school, and reveal the educational significance. In order to achieve this goal, we investigated the life and educational activities of Jeon, Young Chang and contemplated the educational thought through his educational ideas and methodological principles. Jeon, Young Chang considered true Christians, human-like humans and humans loving their country and people as educational ideas, and he felt that free and autonomous education, group education, holistic education, laborious and experiential education, classes considering individual differences and loving students as the methodological principles of his education. He made every effort to put them in practice. Jeon, Young Chang was aware of the importance of human education and holistic education and he realized this fact by himself. He operated diverse and creative student-centered curricula. In addition, he proceeded with the lectures considering individual differences through classes based on levels. He operated the school and taught students in accordance with the principles of freedom and autonomy. First of all, he taught and loved students through behaviors and practice. In this regard, he could present the example of a real educator in this era. In conclusion, the life and educational thoughts of Jeon, Young Chang, who loved his country and people with passion and love, and devoted his whole life to the school and students allows us to think of the true meaning of education and real mission of educators.
