국문 초록

본 연구는 한국종합사회조사(KGSS) 2010년 데이터를 사용하여 교육수준 및 그것과 밀접하게 연관된 변수들과 삶의 질 사이의 구조적 관계를 구명하려는 목적에서 수행되었다. 분석 결과, 한국사회에서 개인의 삶의 질에 가장 강력한 직접효과를 발휘하는 것은 건강이고, 다음으로 사회적 지지, 직업지위순으로 영향력이 크게 나타났다. 교육수준은 삶의 질에 직접적으로 영향을 미치지는 않는 것으로 드러났다. 하지만 교육수준은 건강, 직업지위, 가구소득에 직접적으로 정적 효과를 발휘하고 있었다. 그리고 사회적 지지는 자기 자신의 교육수준의 영향을 받지는 않지만, 그것과 매우 높은 상관도를 가진 배우자 교육수준의 영향을 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 교육수준은 자신이 향유하는 건강, 직업지위, 가구소득 및 사회적 지지를 매개로 삶의 질에 의미 있는 정적 효과를 갖는 것으로 판명되었다. 한편 성별에 따른 다집단 분석 결과는 사회적 지지에 대한 자기 자신의 교육수준의 효과는 여성에게서만 나타나는 반면, 배우자 교육수준의 효과는 남성에게서만 목도되는 것을 보여주었다. 이러한 연구결과는 한국사회에서 전개되는 사회이동의 동인 및 양상과 관련하여 매우 흥미로운 시사점을 제공하는 것으로 생각된다.

영문 초록

Drawing on 2010 Korean General Social Survey(KGSS) data, this study attempts to explore the structural relationships between educational attainment and other factors that are closely related to it and quality of life using the structural equation modeling. The results show that one’s health condition exerts the strongest direct effect on his/her quality of life, followed by social support and occupational status in that order. While educational attainment itself does not have a direct effect on quality of life, it does on health condition, occupational status, and household income. It is also found that while one’s quality of life has little to do with one's own educational attainment, it is strongly affected by spouse’s educational attainment, which in return is highly correlated with one’s own educational attainment. Accordingly, it can be said that one’s educational attainment exerts a significant positive effect on his/her quality of life through occupational status, household income, health condition, and social support that he/she enjoys. Meanwhile, the results from multi-group analysis by gender reveal that the positive effect of one’s own educational level on social support is witnessed only among females, whereas the significant influence of spouse’s educational level is exhibited only among males. It seems that these results have very intriguing implications regarding driving forces and aspects of social mobility evolving in Korean society.
