수화통역의 영역과 수화통역사의 역할수준에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 수화통역사의 역할에 대해 청각장애인과 수화통역사가 인식하고 있는 역할 기대수준과 역할수행 인지수준을 비교ㆍ분석으로써, 청각장애인과 수화통역사가 생각하는 수화통역사의 역할 기대수준과 역할수행 인지수준 간의 차이를 확인하고, 바람직한 수화통역사의 역할 수준을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 선행연구 및 전문가 인터뷰를 통해 5개의 수화통역의 영역과 5단계의 수화통역사의 역할 수준을 구분하였으며, 역할 수준을 측정하기 위한 척도를 개발하였다. 또한 바람직한 수화통역사의 역할 수준을 제시하기 위하여 청각장애인의 수화통역 이용만족도와 수화통역사의 직무만족도를 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서는 전국에 5년 이상 수화통역을 받은 경험이 있는 청각장애인 231명과 수화통역사자격증을 가지고 5년 이상 수화통역 경험이 있는 수화통역사 238명을 대상으로 서베이 조사를 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 기술통계 및 t 검정, 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 청각장애인의 경우 현재 받고 있는 수화통역 수준이 기대 수준에 못 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 수화통역사의 경우 수화통역사가 적정하다고 생각하는 수준보다 높은 수준의 역할을 수행하고 있다고 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 바람직한 수화통역사의 역할 수준은 정보제공 역할 수준임을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

This study compares and analyzes the level of expectation of the hearing-impaired for the sign language interpreter and that of the sign language interpreters' perception of performance. By doing so, this study aims to quantify the difference and suggest appropriate levels of interpreter competency. Five areas of sign language interpretation and five functions of sign language interpreter performance were identified through reviewing precedent studies and interviewing experts in the field and with these five areas and five functions, a scale was developed to examine the levels of performance. In addition, in order to suggest the appropriate level of interpreter competency, user satisfaction of the hearing impaired and the job satisfaction of the interpreter were examined. The study subjects were surveyed nationally, including 231 hearing impaired with more than 5 years of sign language interpretation experience and 238 sign language interpreters with a certificate of over 5 years interpretation experience and description statistics, t-test, multi-regression analysis were applied. The results of the hearing impaired showed that the current interpretation level does not reach the expectation level of sign language interpretation while, sign language interpreter perceived their performance at a higher level than they think is reasonable. In addition, this study confirmed the fact that desirable performance level is the level of information provider.
