한글 簡札을 통해 본 近世 譯官의 對日外交에 대하여

국문 초록

서간 또는 간찰은 판본 위주의 연구를 보완할 자료로서의 가치를 지니고 있을 뿐만 아니라 내용에 따라서는 역사적 사실을 고증할 수 있는 1차 史料로서의 가치도 지니고 있다. 이 글에서는 일본의 종가문고에서 새로 발견된 한글 간찰들을 통하여 근세 시대, 특히 18~19 세기의 朝日 譯官의 교류 및 활동에 대하여 살펴보았다. 본고에서 다루는 간찰들은 1811년 辛未通信使行이 쓰시마에서 ‘易地通信’으로 실현되는데 관련된 여러 역관들의 것이다 이들은 1805년(純祖5)에 진상이 밝혀진 소위 제‘ 2의 간역위조서계’ 사건의 뒷이야기를 담고 있어서 당시 역관들의 외교 활동의 일면을 볼 수 있다. 조선의 왜학역관이 담당했던 역할은 통역 및 朝日간의 원만한 외교 교섭을 위한 중개 역할, 정보수집이었는데, 이 과정에서 왜학역관들이 일본측의 조선어통사들과 은밀히 주고받은 편지를 소개하였다. 왜학역관들은 왜관의 조선어통사와 친분관계를 형성하여 보다 다양하고 비교적 정확한 정보를 입수하기 위하여 친밀한 관계를 유지하였고 그 결과로 만족할만한 협상결과와 명예를 얻게 된다 .

영문 초록

Epistle or letter not only has a value as a material to supplement studies mainly in woodblock printed book but also has a value as a 1st historical material to have historical research on historical facts. In this study, modernera, especially exchanges and activities of Joseon and Japanese Tong-sa (通事)-official interpreter in 18~19th centuries through newly found Hangul letters from library owned Tsushima’s ruler, Jong-Ga (宗家). Letters used in this study are owned by numerous related official interpreters to realize Sinmi-Tongshinsa (辛未通信使行) in 1811 to ‘Reverse Communications’(易地通信) at Tsushima. These include behind stories of Forgery Scandal of Seogye (書契), which was revealed the truth in 1805, and allow to see the partial side of foreign activities of official interpreters at the time. The role of the translator of Japanese Language of Joseon was interpretation and to act as go-between to have smooth foreign negotiation between Joseon and Japan. Through this procedure, the secret letters exchanged with Korean interpreters of Japan was introduced. Japanese Language interpreters made close relationship with Korean interpreters of Waegwan (왜관) to have diverse and comparatively accurate information, and as a result, they achieved satisfactory negotiation results and reputation.
