인식적 수반과 인식적 원리의 정당화

국문 초록

현대 인식론의 핵심적인 주제는 인식적 정당성이론이다. 전통적 토대론적 입장이든, 정합론적 입장이든, 최신의 자연주의적 ‘신빙론’을 취하든, 모든 이론들은 인식에 적절한 믿음의 정당성의 조건을 제시한다. 본고는 첫째로, 이처럼 다양한 인식적 정당성이론들이 원리적으로 성립할 수 있는 형이상학적 근거가 인식적 수반(epistemic supervenience) 개념에 의해 성립할 수 있음을 논증한다. 두 번째로 논문은 인식적 원리의 정당성 자체라는 메타 인식론적 입장이 기본적으로 세 가지 상이한 입장을 소개하고 그 중한 가지 입장인‘비판적 인지주의’입장을 옹호하는 논변을 제시한다.

영문 초록

In contemporary epistemology, the theories of epistemic justification are believed to be the most important questions in epistemology. I argue in this paper, however, all forms of modern theories of epistemic justification share a basic assumption to the effect we can provide conditions of epistemic justification purely in terms of non-normative concepts. And I call this assumption a form of 'formal foundationism'. I tried to show that this basic assumption of modern justification theories can only be metaphysically supported by the thesis of epistemic supervenience. To show this, first, I argue that W. Alston's application of superveience thesis to this problem involves serious mistakes. Secondly, once we get clear about the implication of epistemic superveience thesis, I argue, that the age old problem of criterion can be solved by what Professor Chisholm called, "critical cognitivist line. Finally I draw some epistemogical lessons from these important meta-epistemological issues.
