국문 초록

이 연구는 기존 농식품체계가 가진 한계를 넘어서기 위한 대안 먹거리운동의 현재를 분석하고, 더 나아가 대안적 농식품체계의 미래를 모색하고자 한다. 이를 위해 한국의 대표적인 대안 먹거리운동인 생협의 실태를 경험적으로 분석하였다. 구체적으로는 두 가지 작업을 수행하였다. 첫째, 생협과 한살림의 역사와 현황을 정리하고, 이를 대안 먹거리운동의 논의 속에 위치시키고자 하였다. 둘째, 설문조사를 통해 생협 회원들의 대안성에 대한 인식과 행위 양식을 분석하였다. 지속가능한 대안의 중요한 지표로 안전성, 친환경성, 관계성, 지역성, 경제성의 다섯 가지를 선정하여, 이들 각각에 대한 한살림 조합원들의 평가 결과를 분석하였다. 분석결과 다른 지표들에 비해 관계성과 지역성의 측면에서 개선이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 사실을 바탕으로, 관계성과 지역성에 대한 심층적인 이해를 위해 로짓 회귀분석을 시도하여, 생협의 발전을 위해서는 어떤 집단에 더 관심을 기울여야 할지를 밝히고자 했다. 분석결과 모델에 따라 다소 차이는 있었지만, 대체로 서울 거주자, 고학력자, 그리고 가입기간 3년 이하 등의 집단이 관계성과 지역성의 측면에서 가장 취약한 것으로 나타났다. 생협이 앞으로 대안 농식품체계로 자리 잡기 위해서는 관계성과 지역성을 더 강조할 필요가 있으며, 분석에서 밝혀진 취약 집단에 관심을 기울여야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to analyze the current state of alternative food movement in South Korea in order to explore the possibility of making an alternative agri-food system in the future. Against this backdrop, we have examined Saenghyop (consumer cooperatives) which are arguably the most important organic food movement organization in Korea. We have carried out the two tasks. First, we have reviewed the history and current state of Saenghyop and locate them in the context of current theoretical horizon of alternative food movement and agri-food system. Second, we have analyzed how the members of Hansalim, one of the major Saenghyop in Korea, perceived and behaved in regard to 5 alterity indices, i.e., food safety, environment friendliness, relationship, locality, and economism. We found that the relationship and locality are two indices that needed to be improved. That is, the consumers of Hansalim were relatively less concerned about the relationship with farmers and whether the food was produced locally. We attempted to find out who were the people who needed most improvement in terms of concern about the relationship and the locality by logit regression analysis. It turned out that members who lived in Seoul, whose education was high, and who had been members of Hansalim for less than 3 years were the people who should be targeted to improve their social responsibility. In conclusion, if Saenghyop are to develop into a viable food movement in making an alternative agri-food system, they should emphasize the relationship and locality aspects, by especially targeting more vulnerable groups.
