청동기시대–초기철기시대 고지성 환구(高地性 環溝)에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

청동기시대에서 초기철기시대로 편년되는 고지성 환구는 유물출토양상, 산정상부나 구릉정상부라는 입지적 특성, 주변지역에 대한 좋은 조망, 고지성 환구 내부에서의 유구의 낮은 밀집도, 정상부에 존재하는 괴석이나 적석유구 등을 고려할 때 당시의 의례유구일 가능성이 높다고 생각된다. 고지성 환구에서 행해진 의례는 천신의례와 관련될 가능성이 높다고 생각된다. 이러한 천신의례와 추상화된 조상숭배의례는 다산·풍요·안녕을 기원하는 의례와도 다양하게 결합되었을 것이다. 고지성 환구에서 행해진 천신의례는 초기철기시대 지역정치체의 출현과정에서 나타났던 집단 내외부에서의 경쟁과 갈등 속에서 사회의 통합과 정치체 영향력의 확장을 위하여 수장이나 유력집단이 택했던 사회·정치적 전략이었던 것으로 보인다. 십자일광문이형청동기(十字日光文굋形靑銅器) 중에서 매달거나 묶을 수 있는 고리나 구멍이 있는 청동기와 목제조각품(조상신, 새 등)이 고지성 환구에서 사용되었을 가능성이 높다고 보았다. 의례의 모습을 복원하는데 있어서는 일본 야요이시대 의례제장의 복원모습과 시베리아 예벤키(Evenks)족의 민족지자료도 참고할 필요가 있다. 이들 고지성 환구는 중심마을을 비롯한 하위마을들이 모두 함께 사용했을 가능성이 있으며 이러한 과정 속에서 초기철기시대 제의권이 형성되었을 지도 모른다. 부족한 자료 속에서 논리적 비약이 많겠으나 앞으로 청동기시대–초기철기시대 의례의 복원과 연구에 조금이라도 도움이 되기를 바란다.

영문 초록

This thesis is designed not only to examine the ritual sites on mountaintop or hilltop surrounded with ditches dated the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age but also to trace the kinds of rituals with related ritual tools. The sites on mountaintop or hilltop surrounded with ditches seem to be ritual sites because they have yielded various ritual vessels as well as they command a fine view. In addition sometimes they have some rocks or stone facilities on mountaintop or hilltop, which might be considered to be related to rituals. In some cases they have only some pillar holes or they have no facility, of which vacant space might be a ritual performance space, The kind of rituals performed there might be related to a celestial ritual rather than terrestial one. Rituals might be mixed with wishes for fertility and peace, or ancestral worship. The celestial rituals practised at the ritual sites on mountain-top mentioned here might be the result of the socio-political strategy of the polity leaders or group leaders during the Early Iron Age to justify their power in the context of high competitions internal or external among the emerging regional polities. The tools used for rituals might include not only some of the sunlight-like designed bronze ritual implements with hanging holes or loops but also wooden divine symbolic objects such as ancestor gods, divine birds, etc. Different ritual objects might be used for different kinds of rituals. In addition it would be useful to have broader perspectives to compare/examine archaeological evidences, historical records, and ethnographic data. Spatial ranges are asked to cover from not only Korea but also Northeastern China, Siberia and Japan. Some researches on Japanese Yayoi rituals and ethnographic examples such as Siberian shaman's ritual places of the Evenks people can be a good reference upon reconstruction of the rituals during the Korean Bronze Age or the Early Iron Age practised at the ritual sites on mountaintop or hilltop surrounded with ditches. Because of the limited examples and logical leaps there are many things to be desired. All faults go to the author.
