한ㆍ일 대학생의 성 평등 의식 비교

국문 초록

본 연구는 한일 대학생들의 성 평등 의식 중 적대적 성별 의식과 온정적 성별 의식 검사를 목적으로 한다. 한일 양국에서 사회적 인지도가 유사한 두 사립대학교 교양수업 수강자 각각 380명과 233명을 대상으로 다면성별의식검사를 활용, 설문조사하였다. 한국 학생들은 일본 학생들에 비해서 온정적 성별의식을 더 많이 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났는데, 이는 한국의 남녀 학생 모두가 실질적 불평등관계와는 다르게 낭만적 성역할에 기반 하여 평등한 관계를 갖고 있는 것으로 생각하도록 하는 경향이 있다. 또한 적대적 성별의식과 온정적 성별의식 간의 상관관계에서는 선행연구 결과와 마찬가지로 양국 모두 남성보다 여성에서 상관이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 현상은 그 문화나 사회적 규범들 속에 내포된 남성 위주의 체제 정당화 논리들에 순응하여 적대적 성별의식과 온정적 성별의식을 모두 수용하였거나 이와는 반대로 적대적 성별의식뿐만 아니라 온정적 성별의식에 암묵적으로 포함된 남성 지배적 이데올로기를 간파하여 적대적 성별의식과 온정적 성별의식을 모두 거부하였을 가능성이 있는 것으로 볼 수 있다. ‘멀고도 가까운’ 한일 양국 대학생들의 성 평등 인식의 차이와 특징을 이해하는 것은 국제적 교류가 더욱 증대되는 세계화 맥락에서 한일 양국의 상호이해에 기여할 것으로 생각된다.

영문 초록

Researchers of this study conducted a comparative research on gender sensitivity of Korean and Japanese college students. Korean students show more Benevolent Sexism(BS) than their Japanese counterpart and Japanese students display more Hostile Sexism(HS) than their Korean counterpart. Researchers insist that BS could be more difficult to be changed since it is not obvious or tends to be considered “romantic” and “equal” in heterosexual relationships, which is based upon an idealogy of division of gender roles. The beauty of this kind of comparative study is that the research findings can be a reference point to which people on both sides refer when looking at or reflecting on themselves. For example, Korean students who perform conspicuous consumption to have a romantic relationship can evaluate their dating practices, which have been “manualized”, comparing with their Japanese counterpart and vice versa. Although there are many things in common between Korea and Japan as countries under the Confucian culture, there are many different things as well, such as BS and HS. As the globe gets globalized, people within a nation state come across the borders and it happens to workers, migrants, and college students as well. Equal relationship between genders across the borders is more critical than ever in the era of globalization. Both Korean BA and Japanese HS are subjects to be reflected by both sides of people to improve the quality of the relationship between themselves.
