The purpose of this study is to develop content-based materials for teaching rhyme in highschool English classes. It is based on the principle that learners can enhance their language abilities by focusing on and learning content. To actualize this idea, the literature on content-based instruction and literature education was reviewed and the textbooks were analyzed in terms of the principles described in the National English Curriculum. Teachers and students were surveyed to testify the need for rhyme classes and the efficiency of content-based approach in its materialization. With all the factors considered, the syllabus for one unit was organized and the material was created to teach rhyme with the ultimate purpose of language acquisition. The developed material was evaluated by teachers and students. After the initial revision was done according to the evaluation results, the material was implemented as a pilot lesson to verify its effectiveness. Thus, the results suggest that content-based English curriculum should be established and its materials reflecting students’ needs and interests should be developed for the enhancement of students’ English language abilities. As for learners’ need, rhyme classes should be implemented and their materials developed, reassured by the necessity of teaching poems and their indispensible elements. Lastly, more research are needed to investigate different ways of content-based instruction in a wide variety of literary works.
