영문 초록

This research investigates effective methods in teaching Korean as a second/foreign language to learners in East Asian regions through the presentation of reading lessons. It is a common view that reading is an important measure in teaching language especially to a population less exposed to the spoken and listening component of the target language. According to recent survey studies, despite the time and effort allotted to teaching Korean through reading lessons, based on learners’ cognitive processing and comprehension are uncommon. Therefore, this study proposes the importance of a well-designed lesson that stimulates learners’ interests through true comprehension of reading matter in the target language Korean, especially in East-Asian regions. In addition, it proposes that Korean reading lessons should provide more interesting activities that transfer knowledge from other languages that learners bring into the Korean as a second/foreign language acquisition environment.
