영문 초록

This paper surveys English subordinates structures and analyses them in a Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar. Subordinate structures are named after coordinate structures since both of them are non-headed structures. This paper defines subjunctions, subjucts, and subordinate structures in a type hierarchy. And those types have feature structures with restrictions. To position subjctions in a type hierarchy. subjunctions are compared with conjunctions and complemenizers. Lim (1997) deals with subordinate clauses in an HPSG framework and subordinate clauses are viewed as adjunct so that the whole sentence with a subordinate clause can be analysed as a head-modifier structure. This paper argues that the subordinate structures are non-headed and they should be treated in an independent structure. To this end, types and feature structures are specified.
