영문 초록

With the growing number of Korean ESL children, their academic success in the United States greatly hinges on acquiring and developing good writing skills. This naturalistic case study was intended to examine how a young Korean ESL student developed his writing skills to advance his literacy knowledge. The study suggests mainstream teachers should be aware that ESL children need necessary support to achieve more grammatical maturity and cognitive complexity although their oral literacy seems to be well developed. It also includes the importance of making the reading-writing connection and form-focused, meaningful grammar instruction, in order for learners to incorporate various writing tasks into content area, and to develop a sophisticated understanding of the written language.
