국문 초록

이 논문은 문학평론가 김현의 비평적 원체험의 근거가 기독교 사상에 있었음을 밝히기 위하여 쓰여진다. 문학평론가 김현에게 진정한 사상형성의 원체험이 되었던 것은 기독교이며, 이 기독교 사상의 내면화와 이로부터의 분리에 대한 욕망이 그로 하여금 사상으로서의 4.19혁명을 수용하게 만들고 서유럽의 부르주아 민주주의의 지적 토대가 되었던 계몽주의의 수용으로 이어졌으나, 이조차도 정신사적 경건주의에 용해됨으로써 김현 특유의 문학주의가 형성되었다는 이 논문의 가설이다. 이것을 증명하기 위해, 이 논문에서는 그의 비평형성에 중요한 역할을 끼쳤다고 판단되는 그의 가계와, 정경옥, 외삼촌이었던 신학자 정경옥의 역사비평학, 그가 또 하나의 아버지로 거론하고 있는 이국선 목사의 현실주의적 해방신학, 그리고 그의 부친으로부터 상속받은 금욕적 합리주의를 검토하고 있다. 이러한 검토를 통해 우리가 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 김현의 비평적 여정 전체를 검토해 보면, 김현에게 기독교 사상은 매우 강력한 영향을 끼쳤다고 판단된다. 그의 등단작인 ｢나르시스 시론｣ (1962)에서 탐구하고자 했던 주제가 악(惡)의 문제였는데, 이는 기독교적 원죄의식에 대한 해명 없이는 심층적인 분석이 어려운 문제이다. ｢한국문학사｣ (1973)를 기술하면서도 안창호의 준비론 사상과 함석헌․김교신의 무교회주의를 정밀하게 분석하고, 더 멀리는 조선후기의 북학파의 사상을 서학(기독교)의 도입과 관련해 설명하고 있는 것은 기독교 사상이 김현에게 매우 본질적인 물음의 근거였음을 보여준다. 김현이 평생에 걸쳐 탐구한 욕망과 죄, 그리고 구원의 문제는 그 자체가 기독교적 사유의 원질이라 할 수 있다. 김현이 사유한 세계의 혼란은 폭력을 포함하여 욕망이 여과 없이 표출될 때 나타나며, 그것을 억압할 때 또 다른 혼란이 나타난다는 시각을 보여준다. 세속주의의 견지에서 김현은 욕망에 대한 끈질긴 유혹을 긍정하지만, 그것을 승화의 형태로 약화시키고 증류시키는 ‘과잉의 제거’가 현실적인 대안이라 보았고, 문학은 그 욕망의 노골적인 발현과 승화 사이의 긴장이 탄력적으로 제기될 때 성공적일 수 있다고 보았다. 김현이 현실보다는 그것을 중계하는 언어에 대한 민감한 자의식을 보여주었는데 이 역시 기독교 사상과 관련하여 논의할 수 있는 여지가 많다. 김현이 정신분석학과 신화분석을 통한 문학적 분석의 유형화를 꾀한것 역시 기독교 사상의 흔적을 찾을 수 있다. 가령 󰡔르네 지라르 혹은 폭력의 구조󰡕라는 책이 여기에 해당한다. 지라르에 대한 김현의 분석은 뒤집어 보면, 지라르로 상징되는 기독교적 성화(聖化)와 희생양 이론에 대한 공명이라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록
