영문 초록

When we discuss nationalism movement, many academic workers keep on arguing the nation's long history and the strength of the present minjokjuui that means a kind of 'nationalism' in Korean. But in this paper, I intended to analyse the process of nationalism as a movement, not as strength of it. I reviewed a few theories on nationalism and tried to approach Korean nationalism, adopting the theory which provided a kind of nationalism model by Anthony D. Smith. The model shows that a modern nation inherits the dominant ethnie (ethnic group) of the previous time in some cases. I applied such concepts of ethnicity and nationality to explain Korean nationalism. And I distinguish 'minjokjuui' from the signifie of nationalism. I came to the conclusion that 'minjokjuui' is a concept which might include various meanings and which might contradict its original meanings, and as a result of that, 'minjokjuui' sometimes has justified the anti-government movement. Constructing Korean nationalism, Korean ethnic group, whose successor is the present Korean nation has already been there. Korean nationalism has been continuous for it owes much to the anti-colonialism during the colonial period. It is hard to explain the Korean nationalism with some nationalism theories based on the modernism because of the particularity of Korean nationalism. The signifie of 'minjokjuui' may includes contradictions of which is excepting the original meaning of a word, it shows the direction of South Korea and it is possible to say 'minjokjuui' will support the nationalistic movement in South Korea so far.
